April 24th, 2016 Wayne County Raccoon (IPSC66) Match

Recommended Posts

The start of a new outdoor season in Michigan is upon us and it kicks off Sunday April 24th, 2016 at the Wayne County Raccoon Hunters Club (IPSC66) located in Romulus, Michigan. (5 minutes from Detroit Metro Airport). Many of you have heard about our matches and the crazy amount of work our club members put in to make our local level I matches feel like level III's. Well, it's time for you to make the choice and join us starting this month. The format is the same for the time being......9 stages of level III quality, 200+ rounds, electronic scoring, new covered area's for shooters to get out of the sun and a great social event for all. We are still in the process of moving dirt and forming our new 3 bays but hopefully by season's end we will be using some or all of the new bays. By installing the new bays we had to give up some of our close parking, so please plan to get to the range a bit earlier than before in order to compensate for the parking. Please be considerate of others when parking your vehicle and not taking up 2 or more vehicle's space.

Cost of the match is still $25 for non members, $20 for members and $10 for Juniors shooters(must be with an adult....no drop off/child watch services provided.....we have enough issues to deal with.) Registration starts at 8:30am (Again, please be considerate of the staff trying to get this set up for all the competitors. When they open the window for registration that is the time to get in line to register but banging on the window before then does not get you the special treatment you may be wanting...) and it closes at 9:30am in order to get all the stages/squads synched up in the Nooks so that we can start on time. We ask competitors to stay after the match and help us tear down the stage they finished on by returning the walls to the nearest shed, pull targets and return the props and footing to the range trailer on their way out. Match teardown is much appreciated and goes very quickly when everyone helps out.

Typically, we have enough staff to allow for competitors to come in and just be competitors. If you are a Range Official please be kind and help out your CRO's/RO's by offering to score or even run a shooter or two allowing your staff members to gear up. This goes a long way in helping to make sure that everyone has a great match experience.

We look forward to seeing many of our friends from Canada, Western Michigan and even Ohio at our matches this year. Please contact myself, Rob Gaffney (W00f here..) or Geoff Siembor (Mr. Robot here) if you have questions. Happy to try and help.

Roy

Ok, just so I understand the above post, 9 stage local match with a $25.00 fee. Level 3 style stages? This is just a great Kick off to the 2016 season? Very impressive. This is a great Idea, our only problem we really don't have much of an end and start to our season in south Ga. But I still like your concept. very nice, Good luck.

a matt,

Come on out... we'll have a few laughs.... besides you'll need a break from the hot steamy weather in south Georga... seriuosly though a certain someone who shall remain nameless but his initials are Roy Neal has some very twisted ideas for stages this year..... I really can't believe I agreed to some of them before I realized I will have to shoot those same stages too.....

Eugene,

You know better that that.......we are so disappointed in you now. (or more than usual.......). We will miss you (with every shot fired...) but hope to see you back in the next months!!!

Safe Travels my friend..................

WeaverBagger is just making an excuse to not debut his new SV Sight Tracker in Limited Division........notice how he has to go to the extreme and say he is going to Vegas for a bachelor party? Going to the local bowling alley and then dinner out with some old friends doesn't really count but hey, we are not judging here (much). He really doesn't want folks to know just how bad he is with a non red dot optic sighted gun. That's ok......we will continue to invite him up during the summer to see him with the new blaster. He already said he is not coming for May due to signing up on the wrong day for Ohio Sectional, so we won't see him till at least the end of June........blah, blah, blah.........yada, yada, yada.......

Since Papa Joe's back surgery (legitimate reason to miss.....he has been given a pass....) will keep him out of the shooting sports for a while, we may have to video tape the match and send him a copy in the mail next day air so he can continue to get his shooting fix. See...we are not totally heartless. Close but not totally.......

Our first match/stage planning meeting is this next Monday (18th), so if anyone has some requests for the match, please let us know. If we can, we just might have to accommodate your suggestions. For example, in honor of Papa Joe getting his truck impounded last year at the Canadian border, the truck prop with his name painted on it will be back in play this year on stages along with handcuffs and clipboard props. Yep, nothing like hacking on a guy when he is not even there to defend himself.....so c'mon over and join the fun. We look forward to seeing many old friends and making some new ones this year.

3 1/2 hours till the planning meeting......no suggestions out there from folks? Ok..........all low round no movement static courses of fire then..........Yeah, we couldn't do that. I might get strung up the flag pole if we tried.

Parking-due to us losing about 100 yards of parking due to new bays being put in, please park in the field to your right when you are driving in just before you make the right turn that puts you in front of our clubhouse. It should hold 35-40 cars if everyone parks nicely. We should have some barrels and signs up but this way folks are aware of this situation.

Looking forward to seeing you all this weekend.

Parking shouldn't be an issue if I bring my bike.

Dennis we look forward to seeing you (and your bike) this year..................

After the meeting last night, it was decided to run 8 stages plus a classifier for 9 total and 260 rounds if you don't miss...........yeah, the round count is higher but this is the first outdoor match of the year for many so we decided to "gas it up a bit"............

May will be our usual classifier match with 6 classifiers and 3 large field courses due to the Ohio Sectional the same weekend as our match.

We look forward to seeing you out on the range this weekend!!

Complain, complain, complain............and see where/what that will get you. Just another penalty foot fault on each stage or a +2 seconds....take your pick. See...we're givers at our range. Mostly of grief but we give.......

I posted over on the IPSC66 Facebook page but wanted to say it here as well. What a great match! 9 stages and each one was full of options, with many having a good mix of hard and easy shots along with a smattering of no shoots. Thank you to the setup and match crews as well as the ROs, especially Geoff and Gerald who had to put up with me and the rest of our squad. I look forward to the rest of the season.

James,

Thank you for the kinds words and attending our match. We are glad that you had a good time and enjoyed yourself. I know you and I talked about you finding a new club to call home....we would love to include you into our group (The Collective!!!.....couldn't help myself....).

I will pass along your compliments to the rest of the staff. It really helps for them to hear it from our competitors about how much they appreciate the hard work they put in to run such a match, so thank you for doing so.

While it was a long day, think about how much fun it was to be outside (for a change) and in the warm sun compared to the long winter we experienced with almost no shooting. Wasn't so bad now was it? That is what I keep telling myself and everyone else who will listen.

Indeed was a great match Roy...Stage 4 had me pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to shoot it...eventually figured it out :roflol:

I will also finally be joining the club once I drop my app in the mail tomorrow.

John,

Glad you liked it. A couple of our staff members worked for a couple of hours on just that stage setting it up. Then I worked on it myself for almost an hour on Sunday during target set up to try to get it just right. Sometimes I have to remember that I have to shoot the stage as well and to back off the difficulty a bit.........

On my squad, I saw at least 6 ways to "NOT" shoot the stage and 3 other interesting ways to do it. As a match director, there is no better thing to see than options, options and more options.

We would love to have you join the group and put you to work!!! We look forward to including you.

I haven't posted a video to youtube in a while but had a buddy film me at this match. Figured some here might like to see the awesome stages Roy and crew setup and laugh at me and my broken trigger return spring on my CZ.

Remember....you all have to laugh WITH Mr. Wurm........not at him or at his expense.........only club members can laugh at him like that. One of the benefits we offer our club members and staff. This way he (and others like him) keeps coming back to entertain us time and time again. When the gun runs, he does have some talent......

So now we are waiting an a certain shooter from Southern Georgia (Savannah no less) to one day make the trip and join us.......just saying....
