LoadMakeReady
No matter what I do , I cannot kick the smoking habit and quite frankly it's pissing me off . I have tried several times over the past 3 or 4 years and can never seem to make it past 6 months . You would think in theory that working out , racing , shooting etc would take your mind off of it but it doesn't . I'm tired of spending money on the damn things yet at the time can't help myself to spark one up the first chance I get . Sarge
I can't imagine how hard it is to quit. I'm so glad I never tried it when it was pushed on me at an early age. Keep at it. I hope you eventually kick the habit.
Miranda
I have been lucky to have avoided starting... my Mom smoked all her life. she tried to quit a few times. she said losing weight was by far easier than quitting smokes. I have tried to lose weight... and have not been able. as far as I am concerned 6 months is a good long time to stop. If you decide to stop again... you may become a pack a year smoker... next goal is become a "bum a cig a year" smoker. keep on quitting, it is supposed to be good for you. I'll keep exercising, it is supposed to be good for you. it ain't easy. miranda
sfchorn
Nicorette lozenges (actually the Walgreens brand) worked for me when nothing else did. I know it's hard. I smoked for 35 years. But it can be done. Haven't smoked in 4 years. When I'm around someone who smokes, I can't believe I used to smell like that. Just had a CT scan for an unrelated issue. Heart and lungs look good. So far, dodged a bullet.
Mark R
You just have to realize it's a habit...gotta have one between point A and point B...gotta have one sitting at the bar..I have time for one right now...etc. I know a whole bunch of them, I was smoking 2.5 packs a day and quit cold turkey about 35 years ago. Hardest part was getting away from the "habit" part of it.
davsco
aunt and uncle were heavy smokers and maybe 20 years ago went and got hypnotized and haven't smoked since. sounds like voodoo to me but it absolutely worked for them.
Hi-Power Jack
I cannot kick the smoking habit You need some more motivation - visit a hospital loaded with COPD patients, or visit a casino and watch the people wheeling themselves around with the oxygen tanks - still smoking, BTW. Nothing motivates like understanding what those nails are doing to you ...

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR I said it before: my brother has worked in drug rehab for 30 years and heroin addicts all say the same thing.... nicotine is harder to kick than any other drug. I hope you make it. Cigarettes caused the cancer that killed my dad, I wish everybody could kick them but it is hard to do. Tom S.
When you finally make up your mind to quit, you'll succeed. It has to come from within. Been there, done that, with both smoking and alcohol.
EngineerEli
What if you make up some sort of incentive for yourself? You get to go on a trip, or buy a really expensive gun, if you can make it a year? Good luck either way!
nahanshew89
Good luck, I kicked the habit about 3 years ago. Wasn't easy, but when you're truly ready, you'll make it happen. Just remember not to give in to the triggers. Occupy your mind with something else.
open17
Smoked heavily for 20+ years. Quit a thousand times---but not for long. Tried patches, gum, meditation, cold turkey. Nothing worked. Eventually got around to trying Zyban (bupropion). That was May of 1999---haven't smoked since. YMMV.
inspector1999
Read a book called, "The Easy Way to Stop Smoking". I read it and stopped. It was worth the effort. Best thing I ever did was to buy that book. If you want to stop, what do you have to lose? P. S. He wrote, "The Easy Way to Stop Drinking", I won't even touch it. openclassterror
I feel for ya buddy. I am addicted as hell to Mountain Dew, can't stop drinking it for more than a week no matter how hard I try. And it isn't nearly as addicting as cigs. Don't know how the successful people do it, but they are an inspiration to me.
v1911
When my father quit smoking, it was cold turkey. He credits straws and toothpicks as his method of success. Something about occupying your hand and mouth. I don't know how truthful that is but he's never smoked while I was alive. Best of luck to you.
