jtrump
Searched quite a lot of threads, and cannot get a great answer on what an optimal bullet weight would be for shooting production... I plan to use Titegroup and n320 as powders. I've heard that with my sights I ordered I may not be able to use 147's? I guess I'm looking for an all around good bullet, and an idea if anyone else is running a Glock 34, what their load data comes out around. I guess I would need to know what people are generally running for an OAL in a Glock 34 also, 1.135? Thanks! bowenbuilt
What has always worked for me is a 147 Coated and 3.3 of N320. Always gets slightly above 130 PF, soft and accurate. What kind of sights did you order that won't work with the heavier bullets? I have had excellent luck with ACME's coated 147 @ 1.125 and their new 140 grain RN bullets loaded to 1.135 OAL
jtrump
I ordered the warren tactical sights with fiber optic front.
Beef15
I ordered the warren tactical sights with fiber optic front.Have Warrens on a G17, have shot a lot of 147 coated bullets no problem.3.2 of Titegroup did 905fps 1.14 COAL.
Hi-Power Jack
optimal bullet weight would be for shooting production Going to depend on what bullet weight you, and your gun, prefer. Some guns are partial only to lighter or heavier bullets - some shooters prefer one or the other. Always seemed to me that beginners prefer the 115's because they don't reload and buy the cheapest ammo they can find, which is usually 115's. As we become more serious, and start reloading, we ten to prefer the heavier bullets (147, and even heavier). Most really good shooters seem to prefer the 124's - not quite as soft, but faster to regroup .... Very personal. Try out some of each, and see what you and your gun prefer. jtrump
I suppose it's kind of that way in limited now as well Jack, Majority shooting 180's, with a few still hanging on to 200g's.. I like a little bit of both, So I thought about a compromise, what about a 135g coated? that would almost give you a happy median between getting things running a little faster and a softer better feeling gun? Sarge
Jack is right. I didn't like 147's as they seemed sluggish. Went back to tried and true 124's. Now I gave some 135's loaded up trying to find good middle ground. Going back to 124's again. lol 1.13 was the most accurate with any bullet in my
jtrump
10/4 I've been reading about the oal and how much it can effect accuracy, it's quite drastic from what people say. 135's feel to sluggish as well or, what don't you prefer about them Sarge? rustybayonet
124's seem to work the best for me. I shoot M&P's and a p85.
NFLcavediver
Not to high Jack the thread, but how do you like the p85?
ultimase
Depends on what you're looking to do. Just blasting ammo? Probably any will do. As you get more serious into competition or fine tuning loads you start getting into bullet weight changes. Heavier bullets tend to create less perceived recoil and utilize slightly less powder, but in general cost slightly more.
jtrump
I've been loading .45 and .40-major for awhile with many different powders and bullet combo's. I Think I'm going to start with a 135g bayou since they are cost effective, accurate and are not to bad to load if you have your press set up for them. I figure it's a mid ground between a heavy and lighter bullet, I'm not really worried about the recoil of the 9mm minor after shooting .40 major haha, I shot some factory 115's and they feel like powder puffs at 144PF on the chrono. I plan to take it seriously, I just could never get the .40 limited gun to feel right to me, I put a stock Glock 34 in my hands take it to the range with some factory ammo and shoot faster and more accurate then I did with my limited gun with reloads, and felt more comfortable.. I'm going to play around with N320 and Titegroup and some different OAL's until I get what I feel is acceptable accuracy and then maybe try one more bullet combo just to see how it feels. DukeEB
I've been reloading for a few years now, and I still use xtreme 115's. xtreme 115 rn oal 1.1 5.4gr ramshot silhouette. This produces some very very accurate ammo for me in my 9's.
jtrump
I never had much luck with silhouette, it took way to much powder to make a comfy PF shooting it in .40.. Also it wasn't nearly as accurate. w231 was 1 ragged hole accurate but recoil of a mule with a 167.7PF
jtrump
I tried some x-treme bullets in .40 as well, I basically had zero "CRIMP" on them, when the bullet was pulled you could just make out the line but could not feel it with a fingernail. Bullets also seemed very inaccurate running it with TG and VVN320. I was hoping for better results, I know a lot of folks get great accuracy with them.
