I've asked the folks in Michigan why they insist on doing their regional/state match the weekend of Flagler/Bianchi, and never gotten a legitimate response. The only thing I can figure is that they're sandbagging the match so their local guys don't have any competition. Somebody please correct me if there's a valid reason. I think the Flagler was put on for those that didn't want to travel 8-9 hrs and then travel the same back to Bianchi. The shooters asked Michigan to put on an AP match before the Cup as a warm up as at that time there was none. So they are not sandbagging. They have good entries with shooters from New Zealand,Australia,Canada and the NE USA. It's a shorter run for those of us in the East Coast area to go to Michigan on the way to Bianchi than go 2 hours past Columbia and back. It may seem like a small point, but that's 4 hours of extra travel that we don't necessarily want to do. Michigan is also a 2-day match, State & Regional matches in the same weekend, so more shooting for the location/time frame. I wasn't trying to imply any wrongdoing by the Michigan folks, just simply that I never got a good response about it and that made me skeptical. It sounds like a great pair of matches, and since I'm only 5-6 hours south I would absolutely attend if it was any other weekend. We all know there aren't exactly a ton of major AP matches. I see they do an indoor match in March too. For me I'd be traveling 6 hours up to Michigan, then 9 hours back to Columbia, so it's impractical that weekend. Set up in Columbia, load ammo for 4-5 people and then drive to Michigan early Thursday morning. Practice Thursday evening and Friday; shoot the match on Saturday and Sunday. Practice on Monday and drive back to Columbia on Tuesday to register. In our "spare" time we still had time for 20oz margaritas, 16oz steaks and throwing peanut shells on the floor.
