rustychev
I am working up a load for my 1911 with ramshot competition using sns nlg 230gr rn. At 3.8gr I got a ten shot average of 686fps At 4.0gr I got a ten shot average of 734fps both of the above where shot at a temp of 28 F. then I went up to 4.1 and shot them this morning at 8 F and got 724fps 10 shot average. Is competition really that temp sensitive. I was looking for about 750FPS and ramshots data shows 4.0gr sending a 230gr lswc at about 825 from a 5" barrel and not temp data. All of the above was done with range brass small primer COL of 1.265 and a 5" Kimber. I did shoot 10 rounds of LPP at 3.8 at 28 F and 717FPS and then 10 LPP 4.0gr at 8 F and cam back at 712fps
wgj3
Maybe the difference is the bullet? Are your "RN" bullets plated or jacketed or are they plain lead? I think you generally see higher velocities with cast/coated bullets with the same powder charge. The LSWC (L=lead) you reference would be a plain cast bullet... BASE772
4.2 Ramshot Competiton with an SNS 230 grain loaded at 1.250 gives me 175PF out of an STI Trojan. My favorite load.

rustychev
Went out again to day it was a little warmer 32F 4.1gr SPP 10 shot avg 729 4.0gr LPP 8 shot avg was 720 lookis like I will try 4.2 both LPP and SPP Im thinking the RN is just enough shorter than the lswc they used that I have way less bullet in the cash and am dropping the psi a bit. BASE772
Ended up at 4.2gr pf of 176 Pretty much exactly what my .45 load is. I love it. Nice recoil and super clean in my gun.
aandabooks
I'm at 3.9gr with a 230gr S&S coated NLG bullet. It makes 171PF out of my Barsto 5" barrel in my 1911.
rev1911
I've been loading 4.0gr of Ramshot Comp under a RMR plated 230gr RN at 1.230 OAL, and I'm pretty happy so far. It averages 760fps out of a 5" 1911, which is almost exactly the same as my other favorite load, 4.0gr of N310. The Ramshot has slightly higher ES/SD than the N310, but I can't tell a difference accuracy wise (under 15 yards offhand). Seems clean and soft just like N310, though it doesn't meter quite as consistently, which I presume is causing the higher ES/SD. Overall can't complain for $80 per 4lb. BASE772
Ramshot Competitons meters better than N310 in my press. Both good powders. Even if the price was the same I would still pick the Ramshot.
bowenbuilt
I am also at 3.9 out of a 5" 1911/2011 and RS Comp is by far my favorite powder for this caliber. Clean and super, super soft.

ktyler
Ramshot comp is reverse temperature sensitive. So hot outside but slower it gets. Example last week chronographed as soon as I got to the range. 3.6 great with a 124 bayou bullet came out at 130pf. Left the ammo out in the sun for a few hours and chrono before I left with a temperature of 85 degrees. Same load came in at 120 pf . In my 45 I generally go up .2 grains in the summer. Just my thoughts and experience hope it helps
