Jasonub
Hi there! I have a barsto bull barrel with a length of 5.5 inches. My problem is that I will install it in a limited class pistol but would like to ask if the barrel should be crowned or chamfered. Irv stone specified that all of his bull barrels are chamfered. Is it better to chamfer or crown using a lathe or using hand chamfering tools from brownels?
Jasonub
Whoops I forgot to say that it has to be cut first to 5 inches. He he. JB
Shooter Grrl
JB, I suggest you contact Irv and find out if he'll swap your 5.5" for a 5". Then worry about cutting on it yourself if he says no!

Patrick Sweeney
The best way to cut it would be on a lathe. Then re-crown using the Brownells tool. Lacking power, a very careful cut using a fine-toothed hacksaw (stop cringing in the back row!) will shorten it and use the Brownells tool to re-crown. If the hacksaw approach has no appeal, you'll be at it for a long time using the Brownells crowning tool alone. Find a machine shop.
Phil Dunlop
Try shooting it as is. Depending on your magwell and beavertail, it may well fit the box and if barrel weight helps, see the tungsten barrel thread, the the extra weight may be a bonus. I left one long last year and quite liked it, the only negative is that it tends to obscure the foresight from the high ready, I mean its not as prominent with the barrel behind it. I eventually got mine cut on a lathe. P.D.
