mpeltier
I understand the difference between forged and cast, but which one is better for making a 1911? Neither is best. Its more important to consider who is making it. Done correctly a cast frame or forged frame 1911 will probably not fail you.
BARRYJ
So, what everybody is saying is that forged is better but cast is fine for a handgun. I am looking at a Trojan, which is cast, but was considering paying the extra for a forged gun(no specific model in mind). chrisjohn
Best 1911 gunsmith I've ever met preferred Caspian frames for his SS builds. Your mileage may vary.
robertg5322
Lots of STI Trojans out there with high mileage, same with Caspians and Rugers. You don't hear endless stories of them breaking/failing and I think that speaks volumes. I kind of like that this has caused many to rethink their "handgun must be forged to be good" mindset. zzt
That being said, the last Caspian frame I bought got sent back for voids and inclusions.
