Peplow530
Are ported chokes considered a compensator or a ported barrel? Are they legal in most of the 3 gun shotgun divisions? Edited August 25, 2015 by Peplow530
LoganbillJ
Only legal in Open division.
Peplow530
What about the length they extend from the barrel
LoganbillJ
No restrictions as far as I know.
Maximis228
I would steer clear of them unless you are shooting open/unlimited. Little value comes from choke ports anyway. Spend the money on a diffuser choke instead.
gerritm
I shoot open with a T&N MKA1919. I use Briley ported chokes and Briley comp chokes. IC,LM, & Mod. Comp chokes do help keep the muzzle down. Ported chokes don't seem to change much. Can't really tell between them and standard ext. chokes Briley claims 5% decrease in recoil. Diffuser choke is a good investment. gerritm
wgj3
I was once told by folk at Briley that part of the function of the choke ports is to strip the wad off of the shot charge to create more uniform patterns. It prevents the wad blowing through the shot column and creating a hole.
LilBunniFuFu
As an RO I would have a talk with the RM about any holes in barrels or chokes if not in open/unlimited.

Since they don't work very well as a comp but do improve pattern, maybe we should rethink the rules and allow these in all Divisions, not just Open/Unlimited. StealthyBlagga
Under IMA-SMM3G rules, a ported choke tube alone does NOT push you into Open... we worded it very carefully to avoid this unintended consequence. I can't speak for other matches.
