FlightMurse
I have recently caught some "AP 14" headstamp brass that I didn't catch before throwing it into the feeder and have a pile of 5 or 6 cases that need to be broken down. Stupid crimped primers...
cwall64
On another forum I have been told that the LAX headstamp is Starline brass with a custom headstamp. Brass looked good after the initial running of 100, I'll clean and see how the primer pockets look.
RDA
Headstamp on these is "LAX", but I'll shoot some tomorrow and see if they have the step inside and throw them out if they do... LAX headstamp is good to go from what I know, I don't know if it is Starline or not, seems like awfully expensive brass to use for that type of ammo but if it is, that would be great. I'm chicken s**t, I sort all 9mm by head stamp. I use Win, FC, PMC, R-P, and Blazer and pitch everything else. I am thinking of including Speer in my future usage. Definitely add the SPEER brass, it is good.
b1gcountry
Bad brass: aguila - brass alloy forms ring near head after repeated reloading. Causes case head separation. A Merc - Bad quality metal Ammoload - interior ledge. Case head separation IMT - Interior ledge case head separation. FM - interior ledge. L Y (Norinco China) - Primer pockets too lose Para (Norinco China) - loose primer pockets Triangle(Norinco China) - case head failures Thick cases: CBC (Brazil) - Hard to resize. Beastly
I'd flag the Norinco (I see L Y and Triangle here) as bad/too soft metal. My worst case gauge failure come from these head stamps - but they still shoot in Glocks and Tanfos. These and Amerc would be my top candidates for culling - IF I start culling again.... b1gcountry
No problem. I keep the list on my phone so I can remember too. Combination of my experience and searching old posts.
JRM83
That's a pretty good list. Mine is almost exactly the same with the exception of putting RWS in the tight primer pocket category.
b1gcountry
Btw, for me, anything in the bad brass category goes in the scrap bin along with anything that doesn't look right. Cbc gets its own jug. Tight primer brass goes in another jug. I also put the nickel plated in another jug, but that is just me saving it for special loads.
LeviSS
One I didn't see on your list that I've picked up is Starline. It's supposed to be good, right?

thermobollocks
I'm actually a bit more cautious with Starline 'cause I think most of it comes from 9 major and .40 shooters making major with Clays
RDA
I'm actually a bit more cautious with Starline 'cause I think most of it comes from 9 major and .40 shooters making major with Clays And I have found 9mm and .40 Starline cases and discovered it was coming from a couple of guys that were shooting standard self defense ammo from a small ammo manufacturer. Happy to find all I could of it.
b1gcountry
I reload *-* starline brass. I mostly shoot steel challenge, so I don't worry about 9 major too much. Starline should be on my list, Hornaday too Edited July 21, 2015 by b1gcountry
FlightMurse
Starline is to handgun brass what Lapua is to rifle. I don't bother with it for service calibers, but definitely prefer it for revolvers.
FTDMFR
For 9mm, I toss any brass with Ammoload / IMT or NATO headstamps, and any with flattened primers. For .223, I'll toss anything with Berdan primers. I'll also inspect for cracking or case head separation after tumbling.

aceinyerface
I HATE Aguila and that groove! It fails to case gauge and if one slips in to your ammo supply, it will not chamber, needing to be hammered out with a squib rod.
RudyVey
I sorted some brass today and found some marked with "Perfecta" and PPU, both went to the scrap bin as I was not sure if they are good or not. Ideas??
rev1911
I've found no issues with either PPU or Perfecta. PPU is a pretty well regarded manufacturer from Serbia. Perfecta is walmart's version of Fiocchi.
amokscience
I toss all 9mm WMA brass. Can't easily prime them on my 550 I'm culling WMA from now on too. Even with a 1050 too many rounds end up like these
b1gcountry
I recently ram into 3 WIN marked cases that had crimped primer pockets. Hoping that does not continue.
cwall64
I recently ram into 3 WIN marked cases that had crimped primer pockets. Hoping that does not continue. I noticed that the other day too. But, I didn't know if it was with 10 - 20 year old ones I found in a cabinet at hunting cabin or new ones from Academy (I mixed them up by mistake)!
