mach1soldier
Looking for ideas to add 2 ozs or more to my 1911. It's a typical 5 inch SS gun with dawson magwell. I had it tritopped and now it is way lighter. So what can I do that will add some weight and hopefully help with recoil. For reference, I like heavier guns and like the way they shoot. I'm just not sure how to reliably add weight without changing frames.
2MoreChains
Tungsten FLGR? You don't say what kind of grips you have, but some are heavier than others.
bowenbuilt
Yep, a tungsten guide rod and weighted grips will put most of that back and not add any weight that moves.
Hi-Power Jack
I'm not sure, but I seem to recall that Cha-Lee might have offered a brilliant explanation of where to add weight (probably not a 1911, but it might have been a 2011) back a year or two ago. You might drop him a note and see if I'm correct.
fastluck13
You could also go steel magwell/mainspring housing
mach1soldier
I found cha lee's post but looks like it is all slide related. Who makes a steel magwell? Svi? Most I see are aluminum
Gary Stevens
Be sure you are weighing the gun with an empty magazine.
fastluck13
Who makes a steel magwell? Svi? Most I see are aluminum Smith Alexander for one. I know Dawson Makes a steel one for 2011s. not sure about 1911s.
Guest
Yeah, I'd go with the Tungsten FLGR on a competition gun to reduce the recoil. But as Gary Stevens said make sure you are weighing your gun with a mag in it. Also, be aware that a 5" Tungsten guide rod will probably weigh 3+ ounces so depending on what type of guide rod you now have it might get you awfully close to the 43 ounce limit.
