Blackstone45
I'm struggling a lot with keep my support hand thumb off the slide/frame of the gun. Is the main downside to it that you risk pushing the gun off target with it?
Blackstone45
I wanted to bump my question above - why would keeping the support hand thumb off the gun make a big difference?

If your support thumb is on the frame and you don't have a thumbrest(or frame contouring) that helps you to exert force downwards, that could very well drive you to the side. If your support thumb is riding the slide, it can also interfere with slide movement/speed, which can cause problems with timing and feeding, especially if you have front serrations. The best way to sort it out for you is to experiment with keeping it off to the side, perhaps on part of your index finger, and see if that matters.
