Fearless4x4 Posted May 4, 2015 Share Posted May 4, 2015 I've been shooting Single Stack for awhile now. The wife seems to have gotten bit by the competition bug. Let's see if I can get it to stick. She really likes the CZ platform. But it's one I don't know the fine intricacies of. Can someone briefly explain the differences between the models chambered for 9mm. She has wrist problems and 40 and 45 hurt too much after a few mags. She can shoot 9mm much longer periods before it bothers her. I'm probably going to start her off in limited so she can load to capacity, and give some leeway on stage planning. What would be a good model to start with. blind bat Posted May 4, 2015 Share Posted May 4, 2015 (edited) First decision, standard sized CZ frame or Tactical Sport. The TS is a larger, heavier gun and basically designed for limited. If the TS is too heavy, the next step down would be a SP01 (railed frame) model. Below the SP01 is the standard short dust cover frame. For the non-TS guns the general rule of thumb is that you want to something without a firing pin block. That makes for a really nice reset. Since you are in limited you can remove the FPB from any model but it all depends on how comfortable you are wrenching on CZs. If you want to go cheap buy an SA or 85c model from CZ custom and have them install the competition hammer (remove the disconnector on the 85c, or FPB from the SA) and install decent sights. Done. Well, you'll probably want a magwell and some extended base pads, heavy duty spings, etc. For standard mags, Mec Gars run excellent are pretty cheap. I'd go with the SP01 Shadow since it's in stock and affordable. Call CZC and ask for Stuart. Have him set it up with the comp hammer and a magwell and whatever else he thinks is critical. They are easier to work on. Your choices are a Shadow, CZ85 or a Pre b version CZ75. This last link is for the disassembly of a Shadow. If you have a FPB the firing pin is retained with a roll pin rather than coming apart like a 1911. The sear cage has an extra spring and lever which make it kind of a pain.
