Powder mystery

I noticed it long ago... you take a pound of powder, and you load 7.0 grains into each case... the calculation tells you it should make 1000 cases.

The reality claims you will get maybe 850.

What gives???

Noticed this with more than one powder.

My guess is the container is counted towards the total weight.

I have found the opposite and that one pound was very accurate.

Some gets spilled here and there, but 15% loss seems like way to much to explain that way. Some powders, the "1 lb" size is actually only 14oz (Clays is one of these). That would get you 875 rounds from the bottle. That seems close to explaining what you're talking about.

That seems close, indeed. I just bought some 1lb cans, so will run an accurate test. The scale is fine.
