wwboater
Once you figure out how you want your 2011 and the blued finish looks like crap what's the best finish to put on it besides getting it hard chromed ? Do Cerakote or Gunkote hold up?

MikeRush
Ionbond, melonite, any of the DLCs offered for firearms are great options if you are looking for something different than hardchrome. Cerakote does hold up, but a lot of people recommend not coating the frame rails on a well fitted gun, and so you aren't really adding anything to the durability of your slide to frame fit. Hard chrome, or the other hard finishes mentioned above, can help in this regard.
racnsoonr
www.Hillbilly223.com does some cerakote for Nighthawk And several others that I've seen
wwboater
Great info, TY. If I do CeraKote or GunKote I can do them at home..... Melonite looks great but then I have to send the gun out. Hillbilly does some pretty interesting work....
XtReMe90
Black nitride any good?
Stician
Black nitride looks nice because it treated metal, not a coating. It isn't as durable as HC. I have a slide and frame with it and it holds up fine.
jtaylor996
Is it possible to refinish something that has already been hard chromed? Specifically Armoloyed?
MikeRush
Is it possible to refinish something that has already been hard chromed? Specifically Armoloyed? Absolutely. Some coatings can be applied over it, or otherwise it can be stripped. There is a video floating around here somewhere that shows the DIY process in I believe muriatic acid, or any of the platers can strip it for you.
