Only on my G31s for the 20lb spring. Alot of guys use them for tuning loads with light springs, but you can use the factory plastic one also. Put the gun in battery and pop the tip out. Take slide off, replace recoil spring, put in battery, re-install tip.

Because I can tune the recoil spring to the loads I'm using and safely use a lighter striker spring.

This. It also allows me to still make weight in Production Division for USPSA. I have about 2K+ rounds on mine with an 11lb spring and really like the way the pistol tracks with the 124 RN 9mm I am using (130Pf).

The polymer ones can break, like javi said it takes a lot of time, but it will definitely happen when you least want it to. The stainless upgrade provides reliability, tuned springs, and a bit of weight, which, believe it or not, truly makes a difference.

You can get one for a very reasonable price.
