NicVerAZ
Does anyone know what type of wire material is used for recoil springs, hammer springs, and other internal springs in general, such as striker pin spring, and how one can recognize them? Thanks in advance!

Toolguy
There are a lot of different materials used for springs, mostly some kind of steel alloy. Some of the common ones are - 1075, 1085 and 1095 carbon spring steel, sometimes called music wire in wire form, 302 or 316 stainless. A lot of non gun springs are made of beryllium copper. Flat and wire spring material is available from Brownell's if you want to make your own. Edited March 20, 2015 by Toolguy
Aircooled6racer
Hello: The best springs are made from chrome silicon steel. That is the same material that is used on valve springs in your car. You know how many miles they work for. ISMI recoil and mainsprings are made from this material. Some other companies are making some now as well such as Wolff, Sprinco. Thanks, Eric
