Are Federal Small Pistol "Match" primers better than standard Federal SPP?

Yes, they are manufactured to more exact and higher specifications than the regular SPP-or that's what they would tell you. Some other members might have a different opinion though.

I bought some when the store had them instead of the standard primers.

They do seem to give smaller groups with no downside except slightly higher

cost.

The "match" part is supposed to get you consistency. If you're looking for a primer to ignite reliably from a lightened mainspring/striker spring, I can't tell that there's a difference between Federal's normal and match primers. That said, I'm happy with the groups off just about any domestic primer I've used, and even the Czech ones. There are probably easier gains to make from bullet and powder selection, action truing, and finger-to-brain fit.

This is true, however I have seen zero difference in performance between them.

I just buy whatever is cheaper at the time of purchase. Yes, I have purchased the Match primers for less than the regular.
