Which Witness shall I get?

Hey all,

It's time I decided what handgun I wish to purchase to begin competing with. Over the past year I've made it a point to get my paws on any new handgun I could. If I knew someone with something I hadn't shot before, I certainly badgered them into letting me take it out.

Finally I landed on EAA/Tanfoglio. I believe what I shot was the Witness Stock II in 9mm and it was fantastic. Looking into it more I realized these are purpose built weapons and understood why it was such a pleasure to shoot. At the price they sit, I can't resist. (I'm also too pretentious to be mainstream and shoot a glock)

At this point I think I've narrowed it down to the Witness Stock II or the Witness Limited match I believe it is. Also not sure if I want to go 9 for production or 40 for limited. Mind you I'm rather ignorant to USPSA as im a newbie so feel free to voice your thoughts on that as well.

Let me know what you guys think. Open to all thoughts, ideas and suggestions.

I'm going to continue to post, discuss and research until I'm able to post in the classifieds and at that time, once im at a decision I will post in the classifieds looking for whatever I decide and begin my journey from there!

Regards,

Zack

If you want to shoot limited probably the better gun to get is the "limited" not the match.

The stock II is fantastic. If later you wanted to shoot it in limited you certainly could. It's fairly easy to convert it to single action only, or leave it as is and just start in SA with the safety on.

One option worth considering is a stock II in 40. You can load soft minor loads for production and if you ever want to try limited you can slap on a magwell and load up 40 major rounds. :)

this is the stock II http://eaacorp.com/portfolio-item/witness-elite-stock-2/

this is the limited: http://eaacorp.com/portfolio-item/witness-elite-limited/

but they have finally released the limited custom extreme which now has the lightened slide (the rest of the world gets this as standard )and the extreme parts. It's not a bad idea. http://eaacorp.com/portfolio-item/witness-limited-custom-xtreme/

I'd suggest probably the stock II or the limited custom extreme. :)

The Limited Xtreme is looking real real good, I must admit. How much do they run for new/used?

Also, if I went with the stock II, how much is a mag well and what does installing one entail?

I have a pair of stock II's in 9mm and a Limited in .40 and shoot the latter in Limited division. I had a Stock II in .40 and I think it'd make a good gun for Limited and you easily could shoot .40 minor in production. A Magwell is as easy as screwing it in and getting different grips. If you want one for both then a Stock II in .40 would be my suggestion. If you want just a Limited division gun then go with the Limited.

Yeah the magwell is easy. Can probably find a used one off a limited and grips to match for very little money. It's a 2 min job to swap over.

The limited custom extreme is nice. It's basically a limited custom with the xtreme bits and a coating job. The cool thing is you finally get the lightened slide which for some reason was absent on the U.S. market limited.
