Big John
with a round in the chamber is it better to "cock and lock" or safety off and hammer down? I see good and bad both ways. What do the "pros" do?
DBChaffin
I am not pro, but here is a good article about the subject. I am sure there is more out there though. http://www.sportshooter.com/gear/conditions1911.htm
Chriss Grube
Most guys carry the 1911 C&L. I wouldn't carry with a round in the chamber and the hammer down. Really bad Idea with series 70 style. If you're not comfortable with C&L check out the para LDA.
Jon Merricks
I carry my kimber C&L in a fobus holster with no worries. If its a quality firearm you should have no problems.
Big John
After reading your posts, I have come to the conclusion that C&L or mag inserted, no round in chamber are the 2 best ways to carry. An "Israeli draw" would work in most cases. In greater alert situations I would C&L. Thanks all!
bountyhunter
You did not specifically say it is only for 1911: if you carry a Beretta 92 or 96, you can keep a round chambered (hammer down) with safety on and the trigger is dead until you flip safety off, then it is just a trigger pull to fire. This is one of the best safeties around for carry.
