Correct Remington primer for .40 cal

Recommended Posts

I thought there was a thread that provided this information but i can't find it.

I purchased like 1000 Remington 1 1/2 small pistol primer only to read on the fine fine print Warning: not to use with .357 or .40cal. My question as far as Remington is concerned what is the definitive as to which primer to use.

I've read where other reloaders use small rifle primers. But i want to know what's right b4 breaking the rules.

Thanks for any info in advance.

The difference in the Remington 1 1/2 vs 5 1/2 is cup thickness.

I have used many thousands of Remington 1 1/2's for .40 major without any problems.

They don't seem to be the most popular with a lot of guys compared to winchesters and federals but they work just fine for me. I'm not picky.

This is great info. I also picked up some remington (1 1/2) locally and got home only to notice on the package the warning about .40 and .357 calibers. Unfortunately the local store does not do returns on primers or powders even if not opened. So needless to say i'm happy or confident to know i can still use them for this application, then switch to a primer where there is no question or warning on.

I like Rem primers the best between CCI, Win and Federal. The primers are not out of round like Win. They seem to load easier into the tubes and always go bang. Plus they are brass colored which means my brass is colored coordinated. :roflol:

Every Remmy primer I've ever used was silver in color, like CCI....Winchester are brass colored.

OOOOOooooopppppppssss...........You are right about the color.............What that being said, I now like the brass colored # 1 1/2 Rem primers the best which I use in both 40 major and 9mm minor.
