ICEMAN550
I just acquired a nearly new(200 rounds fired)through a gen glock 22c(steel guide rod, polished internals, 3,5 connector and night sights). I am a new USPSA shooter using a stock gen 4 glock 19(with tru glo tfo). Looking for opinions and options. My original plan was to buy a new M&P pro 40.with the Apex CAEK FSS. I shot someone else's once and still wanting one ever since the first time I touched it.lol. Anyway, I had a deal on the glock 22 that I couldn't pass up and I do like glocks. That being said, I am not planning on going open division. Option 1-I could pick up a KKM Barrel(non ported), brass mag well, upgrade other trigger components and shoot it in limited. Option 2-I could pick up the KKM barrel and just shoot production as is. Option 3-Sell it with the 5 magazines and purchase the M&P Pro 40 that I really wanted depending on how much I could get for the 22c. Would using the slide from the 22c have any effect or extra wear on the gun with a standard barrel since it is slightly lighter? Also tossed around the limited idea , but buying a 357 sig barrel. Anyway, at this point, I am looking for opinions or other ideas if someone can think of something else. My main goal currently is just to be more proficient with my duty guns, but will likely get more into the gaming in the near future. I wanted to dedicate 6 months of solid training between work qualification, 2 week tactical school and USPSA shooting 1 match per month and 2 days week practice. Thanks to everyone for their input! KustomHolsters
Really depends if you like the Glock style pistol or the M&P. Glocks are alittle cheaper to build on with all the used aftermarket parts available vs the M&P. And no, the 22c slide would not have any more wear than normal. ICEMAN550
I like both. The m&p just felt perfect in my hand and the couple times I tried them , they were accurate. I also like my glocks so I haven't made a clear decision on what I decide to do. Likely one of the above options though.
mlmiller1
You know 357sig will be scored minor right?
ICEMAN550
No, I did not know that. I guess I figured 357 sig would make major. I am curious as to why if the power factor makes major. Especially since 9mm can make major in some of the open guns.
mlmiller1
9mm ok in open but no other divisions
mlmiller1
357sig. All the disadvantages none of the advantages. Reduced mag capacity, more recoil, more expensive ammo. Minor scoring.

DreGarciaTAT2
Shoot production first... Then switch over the limited who you wanna church that Glock up! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
ron169
I wouldn't worry about the lighter side. Think about it this way, a lot of people pay good money to have a slide lightened on their Glock out 2011.lighter slide, faster cycle!
Whitefish
Just to note - not minor any more - effective January 1, 2015, 357 SIG is legal to shoot major power factor in USPSA Limited and Limited 10. The BOD approved that late last year. There is a discussion about that under USPSA rules under new major power factor cartridge.
ICEMAN550
Question regarding best way to set up the 22c. I will order the non-ported barrel. Looking for recommendations. If I go KKM should I get a glock 22 barrel or if I was going to use it limited, could I use a glock 35 barrel? Also, since it has the upgrade guide rod, 3.5 connector and polished internal parts, what springs should I get? I was looking at the zev's competition springs. How much difference do the drop in kits make(vanek, edge, ) vs just going with a 3.5 connector, stronger trigger spring and lightened striker spring? If I go to a lightened striker spring, is it recommended to change the recoil spring #? I have heard that if the recoil spring # is reduced, that the striker spring should be too, but does that work going the other way? I don't have any issues with the slide and just wanted to know if I can leave the recoil spring # stock or will it cause any problems? Also, if there is a better competition spring kit than zev's? Thank you for responses. I am new to the game and have been running stock glock 19 the last few months.
mlmiller1
Whitefish, I wish they would post that on the website where it's easy to find, like in the appendix. hahaha. I am sure it's there but I can't find it. Do you have a functioning link? Of course it's a nice thing to let the guys that show up with a 357sig shoot major but it's really still not a great choice for shooting major in my view....which means nothing really of course. LOL. Heavy recoil, no compensator, no more rounds in the gun than a .40.
ICEMAN550
the 357 sig probably isn't the ideal major round, especially for reloading, but it seems to be avery fast, accurate round. For LEOs that get free ammo from their agency , I can see the benefit. I really like the 357 sig for a carry round and was just looking at options. ron169
One other option is just to but a used Glock 22 barrel. A good Glock barrel will easily last 20k rounds. When I set up my 17c for production, I posted a wtb thread here for a oem 17 barrel. Got one for 60 bucks and have seen them for sale for 45 since then
zipper046
You state you want to be proficient with your duty weapon....so I am assuming you are a LEO? If so, what does your agency issue? GLocks? I am a LEO and on our Agency Special Response Unit...and we are issued Glock 22's. I shoot a stock GLock 22 in Production, and a slightly slicked up G35 in USPSA competition. I have other guns I use sporadically (Para P16-40, Springer 1911-A1 in .40, Kimber Classic Gold Match in .45acp...), but I consistently use my Glocks so I can stay proficient with that platform. With that said....I would stick with the Glock 22. I would do the following: 1) Get a stock G22 barrel or a KKM Barrel 2) Your trigger is already polished. Get the Zev competition spring pack ($9) & the Zev V4 Race connector ($15). This will give you a really nice trigger! 3) Lot's of AMMO! That's about all you will need for starting out. When you decide to go to limited, just purchase some Arredondo or Dawson magazine extensions (you'll get 20 rounds out of a standard 15 round mag), and then you're ready to go. ...Now if your Agency issues S&W M&P's.....well....shoot me a PM and maybe we can work a deal on your 22c!!! ;-)
ICEMAN550
Zipper, I guess what I meant by proficient is that I am not looking to fully game at this point. Even if I am a little slower, I try to use effective cover and move like I would during tactical drills. We are issued sig p229 dak 40's, but can use POW's if approved and qualify. The list includes glock 17 and 26 only, sig p226, H&K usp 40. No M&P's, but I just traded an m&p45 for the glock 22c mainly because I wanted a personally owned 40 since I get a good amount of free ammo. The sig dak sucks for uspsa, but it is accurate. I purchased a glock 26 which I carry with glock 19 mags/xgrips or with the 26 mags as a backup to the sig.The 19 is not on the approved list for some reason.. I can shoot either platform for a high qualification score, but my goal is to be better. I have noticed a little inconsistency since I hit my 40s. Not sure if its just that I let my skills diminish over time(used to shoot max score often). for the last few years I really didn't practice other than my 4x year qualifications, but after watching some uspsa matches, I realized there is a lot of room for improvement. The m&p pro 40 is what I want the most and the rumour is we are ditching the sigs for the m&p in the next year or so. Still , I am sure they will give us a junk stock trigger. I want to get the m&p with the apex fss flat faced trigger, but I will still shoot my stock glock 19 about half the time since it is about the same as my 26 with xgrip mags.(minus 1/2 barrel and rail). Hopefully this isn't too confusing.
ICEMAN550
Also limited is actually just limited 10 in NY. I can use hi cap mags, but only load 10 just like the non-leo's.
