The bummer about the Kindle Fire is its poor battery life and hard to see screen outdoors. The price is fantastic and they would work awesome for indoor matches. But for outdoor matches you would need a fleet of external battery packs to keep them going not to mention people wanting to football spike them because they can't see the screen.

Would the "monochrome" Kindle be a wise choice for Practiscore? I think the glare is more an issue with the color Kindles? Sorry but can't see a model or version but it is 6" screen.

I don't have a Kindle, but I believe you can't load Practiscore without Rooting it and even then I think there are issues.

Amazon has the Kindle Fire HD 6 tablet on sale for $69.99. This is $30 off the normal price. In December of 2014, my club bought two of these to evaluate them as alternatives to the Nook Simple Touch.

After 15 months of use in about 30 matches, they are still performing great! I strongly recommend these to any club that wants a better scoring experience, as compared to a Nook. We also bought 2 of the new Fire 7 tablets (for $35 each!) recently, but they aren't as good. The display isn't as bright and the battery life isn't as good, but they certainly work.

Here is the link to the Amazon site where these are on sale.

Here is my original post, with a detailed review and suggested settings for making the Fire work best with Practiscore:

So far, we have run 3-gun matches that lasted 5+ hours and still had plenty of battery life left. They are rugged, with no hardware issues so far. We don't use cases or screen protectors. They have been dropped numerous times and show no ill effects.

One of the best things about the Fire, or any Android tablet, over the Nook is the ease of updating Practiscore. Since the NST is no longer available new, you have to scrounge around to find them if you are looking to go electronic. Then, you have to root it. Updating the Practiscore app is not particularly difficult (use a microSD card) but certainly not as easy as with a tablet.

At this price, they are about half the cost of a decent timer. You will appreciate this upgrade to a Nook.
