kevinm
I'm new to 3 gun so can someone tell me why a lot of people run the jp bolt?
Pat Miles
in a nut shell. During the cycling of the gun, the less mass (weight) traveling backwards and then stopping suddenly, the less muzzle rise The less muzzle rise the faster back on the target for follow up shots. The JP low mass bolt also has larger bearing surfaces which causes less wear in the upper.
TonytheTiger
Don't forget the less weight coming to a sudden stop as the bolt goes into battery the less muzzle dip there is. Basically, less weight reciprocating in the gun: less gun movement= you can get your second shot on paper that much faster.
kevinm
Ok so you could run lighter loads for up close shots too right?
Vlad
Ok so you could run lighter loads for up close shots too right? To a point, because that chunk of metal still needs to go back and forth and mass is mass.
JPeel
Ok so you could run lighter loads for up close shots too right? To a point, because that chunk of metal still needs to go back and forth and mass is mass. You could run lighter loads but you still need enough gas to cycle the bolt reliably. You could use an adjustable gas block and tune for that load but then you could be over gassed on long range loads. Your combination of lo mass components, gas block, and comp all help create the flat shooting gun.

Jesse Tischauser
Thanks everyone for all the info. Once you try shooting a low mass tuned gas gun you'll wonder why so many hobbiest shoot M4's or anything else.
