kmaultsby
Hello everyone, I am right-handed left eye dominate. My eye dominance problem has gotten really bad so this past weekend I shot my IDPA match left-handed. Believe it or not I shot pretty well. A little slow of course but with more dry fire practice I should be good. My question is with an XD are you using your left index finger or left middle finger to release the magazine or are you using left thumb?
d_striker
Just my opinion, but I would use your thumb regardless of which hand you're shooting with.
RJH
Index finger, I am left handed, and always used the trigger finger with 1911s and continued with it. Tried the thumb when I got the XD, and didn't like it at all. Even if I were right handed I would still use my index finger.
flycaster
+1 on the index finger. I find it pretty natural to pop the button with it, but the thumb always felt clumsy. Chuck
5iron
Use your trigger finger, and you'll never have a AD when slamming a mag in, most AD I've seen are right hand shooters during a load and not getting there finger off the trigger, power to the lefties. d_striker
I guess I'm not following...Why does it make a difference if you're left or right handed with regard to using your thumb vs index finger to hit mag release?
GMB
index finger of shooting hand. works really well.
SteveU
Left index finger. I used to put an extended mag release in on the right side, and use thumb but after I got a 2011 gun I got into the habit of always using index finger.
darkvibe
Thumb. Using your index finger is asking for it to pop into the trigger guard if it slips. Learned that the hard way.
GMB
Trigger finger is safer, because its of the trigger and activating the mag release. Although my experience level may not be to the same level as yours. I have always used my trigger finger to activate the mag release. d_striker
Thumb. Using your index finger is asking for it to pop into the trigger guard if it slips. Learned that the hard way. That's what I was thinking. It also seems like it would be much slower to use your index finger.
Chuckie45
I'm not sure why you don't just shoot right handed and put the gun in front of your left eye. This is a pretty common solution for cross eye dominance.
