NoSteel
Since this is a new platform thought it would be nice to have a thread specific to 9mm loads for the 929. I don't have mine set yet but plan to start with 147Gr RN Blue Bullets over a N320 load, expecting ~3.4gr range. I'll post final results later. Anybody have others they would like to share & why it's their preference for this revolver????? Edited November 24, 2014 by NoSteel
peterthefish
I have some load data I'll put up later, but will tell you my 929 shoots slow. I need to up loads by 5-10% to match most 5" autos I have.

DougCarden
Good stuff. A buddy here bought a 929 and I am going to work some loads up with him as well. I will be using a coated 160 and tightgroup, 231, Solo 1000, and 320. I hope to have them done by Christmas....this work thing sucks.....LOL DougC
peterthefish
Titegroup may suck in the 929. Burns hot so will probably make the cylinder uncomfortable to handle while reloading on long strings. At least I had that issue with some mild loads using power pistol over the summer. 1911Prof
I'm new to reloading for revolvers, can you use long OAL for 9mm? like out to 1.20 or so?

I've played around with some but she really runs slow Solo 1000 is pretty close to N320 so I'd imagine you might make minor with 2.9 - 3.0 GR and 160 Bayous. I don't like 231/HP 38 with heavier bullets. I'm sure you could cram enough HS6 in to make minor with any of those bullets too. I'll be working up some loads this winter and will keep them posted, but I'm having the same problem with velocity. Seems to run almost 100 FPS slower than the same loads out of my autos. Standing DAO 50 ft. one raged hole. Apex hammer w/comp firing pin 5 Lbs 10 oz. with federal only I need some slower powder I am thinking for the 165s I don't think I will wast time with Titegroup... I am going to try WST next (I wish I had WST powder data for Quickload) I was hoping to see more load data with success stories on this forum by now... Please share looking for help. Olympic Fox
I've been trying to work up some loads for my new 929PC. Seems that everything I've tried so far either doesn't make 125 power factor, or the cases stick in the cylinder. And, yes, my 929 also runs noticeably slower than my 5" semis (1911 & M&P). 147gr Berry's plated 3.5 gr W231 860 FPS 126.4 PF Brass ejects easily 147gr Berry's plated 3.63 gr W231 ** 892 FPS 131 PF Brass difficult to eject ---------------------------- 147gr Berry's plated 3.8 gr AutoComp 848 FPS 124.7 PF Brass ejects easily 147gr Berry's plated 3.9 gr AutoComp 857 FPS 125.9 PF Brass somewhat sticky to eject ---------------------------- 170gr moly-coated lead (Bear Creek) 2.59 gr W231 ** 720 FPS 122.3 PF Brass ejects easily 170gr moly-coated lead (Bear Creek) New Starline brass 2.95 gr W231 ** 771 FPS 131.1 PF Brass VERY difficult to eject ---------------------------- 170gr moly-coated lead (Bear Creek) 2.95 gr AutoComp ** 735 FPS 124.9 PF Brass ejects easily 170gr moly-coated lead (Bear Creek) 3.12 gr AutoComp ** 762 FPS 129.6 PF Brass ejects with moderate effort ** NOTE: Average of 8 rounds measured on RCBS digital scale
Shmella
Anyone find a good combo that isnt sticky and makes 130? Im waiting on my 929 to come home from the smith. Im going to try hs6 autocomp and silhouette with a 115 or 124 jhp
3gunyotehtr
I use 3.2 grains of Red Dot, .358 147gr RN Blue Bullet seated at 1.170. Sized with Lee U die and crimped with factory crimp die. Makes 133pf and cases eject smoothly. With a scope it will do consistently under 3" at 50 yards.
3gunyotehtr
HS 6 is too dirty for a revolver. You will get unburnt powder under the extracter and mess up your reloads.
oteroman
Accuracy? Sticky extraction? What brass? Thanks
3gunyotehtr
Accuracy is good. Not sticky at all. Using mixed range brass and revolver supply nickel plated .035 clips.
MWP
Brass is the key to the 929. I'm using a Rainier 151 and titegroup at 1.160 with Federal brass.
3gunyotehtr
So far the only brass that I have had issues with is the Tula brass stuff. Rims are too loose for the clips.
peterthefish
I find Federal and Winchester brass fits the TK clips best. I also had an issue with a Tula case being out of spec (too thick past the rim) locking up the gun as a result. I try to cull the Tula but nobody's perfect. Shmella
Is FC head stamp federal? seems almost all of my 9mm is Winchester, Blazer, and FC. I have revolver supply moon clips and the Win, and Blazer fit good in those. I seperated all of my 9mm and threw out anything that wasnt one of those headstamps hoping for a good start on finding the right recipe. Same thing with Tula, it falls out of the clips under its own weight. Tula also bulges the most out of anything ive seen with a jacketed bullet seated into it. That brass has jammed up my autos MANY times. I throw away Tula when i see it and hope it never finds its way into my Brass stash again.
