Bout time you started one of these :). Good to hear you pulled the trigger on the Edge. Can't wait to play with it, lol. I use a DAA myself and love it. Very secure, even when unlocked.

Hope winter gets over with soon so we can hit the outdoor range again :)

I am dying to get some shooting in!!!!! When that shiny new blaster shows up it will be even worse!!

Any suggestions for a load for this thing? I don't have a bullet chosen yet, but I do have Titegroup and e3 powder. The new dies should be showing up soon but I was also thinking about getting the Bludge buster push through die as well....

I would recommend 180gr bullets or even 200 or 220 grain but 180's are very common and relativly cost effective. I like the X-Treme plated but have used moly coated and bare lead (not tried any poly coated yet). The heavyeer bulltes will get you to PF with lower velocity which means lower muzzle energy and hence less felt recoil.

For 40S&W I feel you need to do one of three things, a) use a Case Pro (very expensive to buy or it adds up to have brass processed), B) run it all though a bulge buster (cheap and not much time required), or c) case gauge every round and cull the failures out (a bit more time and a bunch of ammo that gets pulled out). I do "b".

Still waiting on the blaster to show up and researching load data. I started back up on my usual sports diet and cutting out the Mtn Dew. No headaches yet... I want to get back to around 175 by the start of the shooting season. 25lbs isn't too hard for me to cut in a couple of months so I don't see any issues there. I do need to get back into the gym though. Since the kid was born, I haven't made time to do it, but my health is suffering for it. The shit food is giving me issues with my joints swelling up, and the lack of exercise is causing my back problems to show up again.....and damn does it hurt. I am thinking that I will get some of those grip extensions to work on my grip at the same time i am doing my normal workouts. I am a little concerned that the grip on the 2011 is gonna be a huge transition form my M&P. I am afraid that my little girly hands are not going to be able to grip that new gun effectively.

I still need brass, holster, and mags. So I need to make a decision on those parts and get them ordered. I am settled on the DAA Race Master for the holster, but I need to decide on the base pads and the guts. Taran seems to have amazing customer support so I am leaning that way on the guts, but I really like the fatter basepads from Dawson's.

I know I am going to have to do a ton of dryfire to get used to the holster and gun, so I need to commit to certain days of the week for that so i can hold myself accountable. I know I will be so excited at firs that I will be playing with all the new gear a bunch at first. I just need to stay at it. I am shooting for high B class this season, and if it goes well, I will push for A.

I've got some answers for you on health stuff ;)

The grip won't be as big of a transition as you think, at least it wasn't for me and I was coming from a 1911 to the 2011 platform. I use the Dawson SNL pads and have not had any trouble. Most of my mags can fit 20 rounds with no special tuning. I use the Grams springs and followers with them too. Taran makes some great stuff and customer service is top notch from people I've talked to.

Congratulations Sporky! I plan on getting a membership to FWRRC by the months end so we can actually practice this game instead of standing and shooting at static targets, or shooting at a range that doesn't allow fast draws or rapid firing. Can't wait to see that in action.

Let me know if you need a sponsor for FWRR. Probably too late for the cut-off for the Feb meeting, but we could try to get you in at the April mtg. April starts the membership year anyway so that would be a good time to get in.

Taran Tactical is where it's at. I thought I liked the DP base pads too, until they hit the dirt and I had to hammer on them to try to get them open. TT's never have any issues. The biggest problem with TT's are sometimes you lose the pins, but nothing a cheap 1/8 drill bit and a Dremel cutting wheel can't provide in a few seconds.

I used to use Grams springs, but for a long while now it's been all Taran Tactical and no issues.

Thanks I will hit you up when I get a load worked up for it. I think I have enough info now to get me in a good place as far as the load making major and still being safe.

As far as FWRR goes, I think I might try to get in in April. I am a member at Hillside now, but it is pretty expensive per year.

Thanks for all in input for Taran Tactical. I am asking Dawson if I can get a discount on the mags since I got the gun from them.

IF they don't hook me up, I might give the TT's a try.

The only thing that worries me is that I haven't seen many of them on 2011's.....I know on my plastic gun they were awesome, but the 2011 models don't look like they add hardly any weight. I was thinking that added weight would help the mags release.

The blaster is done and on its way to me now!!! Should be at the gunshop by Thrusday for me to pick up! I am like a little kid!

My DAA Race Master Magnetic showed up Tuesday and wow is that thing nicely made! I don't think it should cost what I paid for it, but I figure that it should last me a very long time, and I will be depending on it for every match and dry fire practice, so what the heck... why not just get the best. I will slowly replace the CR speed mag pouches with the DAA metal versions over time, but with everything else that I have had to spend to get into this 2011, I think I will wait a bit on that purchase.

I just need to figure out this mag situation and wait for my reloading gear to show up so I can switch over to 40 cal.

The first phase of the diet is working out great, and I cut my caffeine by half as well. The swelling in my knee is gone, and I feel my energy starting to pick up again. Phase two will be getting back on my juice/shakes as my meals during the day, and find time to get back in the gym. The iron will wait until my new massage therapist gets the last of the knot in my back fixed. This new gal says that she can get it to go away, it is just a matter of time. The first session went well, and she fixed the majority of the issues that were keeping my in my Big Dad Chair too long, so I have hopes that she can get me back in the gym soon. If you guys don't go to a massage therapist, you are missing out. I have tried 4 different ones now, and I think i found a winner.

The trick will be setting my time up so that I can be with the kid, get to the gym, dry fire, live fire, and reload. Sounds easy enough.....

Wish me luck!

I got it!!!

The finish is perfect, the tolerances seem very tight, I have my holster set up fairly well, now I just need to shoot it!!!

The trigger is not what I hoped for, but I think that I will start to break it in first and then take it to a smith to have him look at everything. I am still waiting on Mag tubes, and my base pads and springs to come in from TTI. So all I have it the stock 126mm mag that it came with. I will order some bullets and brass this weekend and start the process of working up a load. I think I might ask around and see if someone has any .40 major loads that I could buy off of them to get the break in process started. I was thinking of running some stock ammo through it but I think I will ask about that before I do.... I don't know if it would be a good idea to break the gun in with ammo that I will not be using in a match.

I am glad that I made the choice to go with the Dawson gun. It looks beautiful, and the fit and finish seems to be fantastic as well. I can't wait to get it to a smith and have him make sure that everything on the inside is a purdy as the outside. Does anyone know of a good smith that is used to working on competition guns? I would also like him to look at the mags when I get them as well.

Well now the journey really begins!

I would think you can break it in with any factory ammo.

Tell us what powder you have on hand and I can give you some loads, possibly. Can't do it unless we know what powder you have. Also, what bullet are you going to use, weight and coated, FMJ, etc?

I have e3 and titegroup on hand.

I don't have any brass or bullets yet, but I have used Blue Bullets and Xtreme in the past for my 9mm.

I have my 40 Dillion dies, but I thought I should get the Bulge buster as well.\

The 180 grain bullets seem to be what most people use, but I was also curious about the 200's as well.

I know the Xtreme bullets are decent, but I was thinking about trying Berrys as well. I heard they are the best.

Suggestions?

I'm sorry, I haven't loaded with those powders. Do a search for those powders on the reloading section using the powder name and 40 major.

I use SNS coated 180's. Cheaper than plated and very accurate. I shoot about 20K a year of them. Me likey.

I run a U die on the front and a FCD on the back. Just about any case that makes it through the press will run in the gun.

1st. I'm going to FWRR this weekend to do some chrono work. if you want to come along to give it a run and try a handful (I don't have very many loaded myself) of my .40 loads you can.

This was a new gun from Dawson? Why do you feel the need to take a new gun from one of the best smiths to some local dude to look over? If I bought a gun from some local dude, I'd rather send it to Dawson to check out! :)

I can bring trigger pull guage if you'd like, also. we can look at what you don't like about it and what the weights are at different stages and see if it's just a spring tweak.

Don't over think the break-in. Shoot that tool! Nothing wrong w/ running factory ammo till you get the reloader set up....

Sound good to me! Give me a shout when you are going and I will tag along.

I just wanted to have someone look at the trigger for me. I Think that Dawson doesn't do much to the CRP Edge except put he extras on and test fire. I thought a smith could look at the trigger and do some polishing, and what ever other VooDoo Magic they do.

Finally shot the beast!!

The report on the gun couldn't be better. I picked up about 300 rounds of Winchester white box ammo, and went to the range to meet RVB. I was really nervous loading that first mag up, and then finally shooting it. The stock ammo fed through with no issues at all, and then I used some of RVB's reloads that he was working up for his new plastic-fantastic Glock. They were hollow points that were not loaded very long, and they shot great as well. As expected the groups were tighter with the heavier bullet, and the recoil was no big deal at all. I also was able to crono that load and it made major out of my gun as well. He was also using titegroup in those loads, so if I can come close to replicating that load and just add a grain or so for margin of error, I should be good to go. I will also need to crono that load again when it is warm out as well. k

Final report....I couldn't be happier! After firing about 75 rounds the trigger was significantly smoother than when I was first dryfiring it. I think the only adjustment I might do is just a VERY small about of the overtravel, but even then, I am going to wait a bit longer and see if i can just adapt to it. I was very scared that I was going to get one of the guns that people complain about......but so far so good with mine. I am not regreting my decision one bit, and it is nice to know that i am the only one that has ever owned this gun, and i can track all the changes that go on with it. Speaking of change, the only thing I plan on doing to it is get a different grip. I am eighter going to get a red STI grip or get a Phoenix Trinity if I can ever find one. The red grip would purely for aesthetics, and the PT would be just to add some weight and grip. I would just like my gun to stand out just a little bit without going overboard and looking tacky.

Now I am just waiting on those TTI parts to show up and get some bullets and brass ordered and I will be set!!! My holster seemed to work out much better than I expected as well. The DAA Magnetic Race Master is really a nice piece of hardware. I don't think the price is justified, but if it lasts me several years, I suppose it is worth it. It locks up nicely, fit and finish is top notch, more adjustments that you can shake a stick at, it feels secure as can be, and it releases to the draw like a dream. The only complaint is the price, but I suppose that DAA has to eat too....

A HUGE thanks goes out to RVB for all the help he gave me, and for letting me shoot some of his "Bunny Fart" loads for his plastic-fantastic gun. He was also a great source of knowledge, and he taught me a great deal about my gun. He also confirmed that my shiny new gun will group well with good loads. I was so excited that I couldn't concentrate on shooting a good group. I am such a little kid, that I was just as excited to see him shoot my gun as I was shooting it. I'm such a dork. Seriously though, thank you so much for the help. I really appreciate it.

Now I just need to get mag guts and base pads from TTI to show up, get a load worked up, and start my way up to A class this year!!! I also decided that I am going to shoot the Indiana State match, and maybe go to one other bigger match this year. That is going to be a whole new experience as well.....

So far I would recommend the Chrome Edge from Dawson Precision without question to anyone. I will keep this log updated with any issues just in case anyone else is thinking about one.

It's On NOW!

that's a sweet shooter you have. I was feeling pretty jealous having to go back to my glock. :)

If I'd change anything on it, it might be a little lighter recoil spring once you get your load straightened out. A steel/grippy grip would be a sweet cherry on top.

For a first outting with a new gun, you couldn't ask for more. It ran 100% w/ a couple of different loads and at 7 or 8 yrds I simply made an oblong hole w/ 3 rounds on a gun I hadn't shot before.

My load you shot was a 180gr Zero JHP, 4.3gr TG, 1.138" oal, mixed range brass, Win SPP primers, loaded on a dillon die setup, checked in a dillon gauge. I think when we chrono'd that load through your gun in came right in at 165PF, so you'd probably need another tenth or two of TG.
