DDustin
I just got the 16# spring to go with my tungsten GR in my 5.25 9mm. Its about 2" longer than stock and actually feels heavier. Am I supposed to trim it to fit? Also it came with a firing pin spring. Can someone tell me why?
Loves2Shoot
They spring will shrink with use, do not trim it. They like to throw in striker springs with their recoil springs.
bowenbuilt
The main reason they include a striker spring with their reduced power recoil springs is because those 2 springs oppose each other in the gun. The recoil spring is trying to keep the slide closed while the striker spring is trying to pull the gun out of battery. It's not a bad thing to try to keep them matched to equal things out. DDustin
Thanks for that, that makes sense. The PRP trigger kit also came with a lighter firing pin spring. Would it be best to use the heavier Wolff spring or lighter PRP spring?
Loves2Shoot
It depends on how hard you need to hit your primers. I ONLY suggest using a lighter than stock spring with Federal primers. Edited October 17, 2014 by Loves2Shoot
DDustin
I'm using Freedom Munitions 9mm, I'm not sure what primers it uses. When I reload I use CCI.
Loves2Shoot
I use extra power springs for CCI.
bigdawgbeav
I'm using the stock striker spring and a 16# recoil... no issues with primers (for the most part). I load Federal, Winchester, Tula and CCI. Trigger pull is around 3.5lbs.
bowenbuilt
Save the Wolff spring for a replacement when the stock spring gives up the ghost. I wouldn't use the lighter spring at all.
DDustin
Does the lighter spring effect trigger pull at all like it says?
GreenDragon64
You would have less resistance and less friction between the trigger components in the frame and the striker in the slide.
bowenbuilt
Yes it effects the trigger pull as much as anything else you can do to lighten the pull but it also effects the reliability. Hard seated Federal primers are a must with the lighter springs or misfires will be a constant companion.
