Customizing grips in Production

that's the problem with CZs, there are many different grips for the gun and all have different "profiles". We're not talking about changing the profile of the gun here, just working with the grips. if your definition were the one DNROI used i would be ok since sanding down the grips and adding epoxy or silicon carbide would not change the outline of the gun as you describe it

the problem is there is no definition of what is allowed when a Production gun like the CZ has interchangable grips .... the rules don't say anything about whether the grips are part of the gun profile like you describe ...

And the rulebook leaves it to the RM to make the final decision. Troy's opinion carries some weight with a lot of range officials, but in the absence of an interpretation, do you want to trust in that? There's nothing that requires an RM to abide by Troy's opinion.....

Ah! Excellent.

Interesting..., but a sleeve by its nature adds material. So with 21.4 and 22.2 combined, for semi-autos it's okay to add material via sleeve as long as the original profile is maintained. But how can the original profile be maintained where without the sleeve the grip is thinner and with the grip it's thicker?

Or are we saying that a US penny and a quarter have the same profile because they are both still cylindrical, but one is smaller and thinner, while the other is bigger and thicker? But a Canadian loonie does not have the same profile because it has 11 sides?

Grip tape adds material too.......

While we haven't defined it to a maximum number of layers, I think we'll know it when we see it......

Simple grip sleeve no problem. Simple application of grip tape no problem.....

Using either to significantly build up the grip or add features not previously found = problem.....

Agree IMHO, same goes for glue and grit. Use for texture no problem.

Use to significantly build up grip or add features not previously found= problem.

and what exactly consistutes 'significantly' building up the grip? and what happens when a company finally realizes there is a market for 'ultra thick' CZ grips and starts making them. are they illegal becuase they are thicker than all other after market grips? seems kinda arbitary ...

if your head it starting to hurt it should ... this part of the rulebook is just a bucket of worms allowing for 10 different RMs to make 10 different calls and all be right. short of changing the rulebook, only one of those official interpertation things the DNROI can issue is the only way to get this resolved

no way am i going to a major and hope the RM likes my e-mail from Troy ...
