It looks like that slot was milled too close to the firing pin channel and there is only a flake of finish that has been separating the two. I can pretty easily use a pick to probe inside that hole but haven't taken out the firing pin yet to look for any intrusion. It seems to me that this would be a manufacturer defect but I don't know if it would actually cause any issues. I have had this gun for about 8 thousands rounds but this is the first time I have noticed it. Thoughts? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It's possible that it has always been there and I have never noticed it. I don't know that it would cause any issues but it was certainly alarming to find. You paid a lot of money for that gun. I would also wonder if that could cause further issues with the slide itself? Eventual cracking? Could the stress on the slide cause the hole to expand over time? Could some of the metal around the hole begin to fray or bend and get caught on the firing pin spring? It would make me wonder. If you have a surface plate and drop indicator with a sharp end and some pin gages you can check it but then you need to know what tolerance is acceptable, and that info is proprietary more likely than not.
