My New Limited Blaster

Here is my new limited gun. After handling the fat free 6" Benny built as the prize gun at Jeff's shotgun match, I really liked the balance and was inspired to build this one. Thanks Benny! Doug Jones did the Accurail installation and I did the rest of the work. It is in the white and will go out for chroming after a few thousand rounds.

Monster,

Here are the details. The slide weights 12oz. The reverse plug is from EGW, frame-saver stainless guide rod with 12.5 lb spring, the complete pistol is just over 37oz. SV hammer, EGW sear, EGW disconnector, SV ambi, STI grip safety, the barrel is from Schuemann and the bushing is from SV. After it is plated, I will post an updated picture.

how flat does it shoot?

WTF?

bullet should drop about 9 inches at 100 yards with a 50 yard zero..so it doesnt shoot very flat

how much recoil the gun has is relative to the shooter, i saw a girl shooting a 1911 9mm and i swore she was shooting a 45 with full power loads..

enough thread drift,,nice pistol Yendor, how much weight did you save by cutting the spot where the recoil spring goes??

Wonder if a person could tri-top and put the EGW style racing stripes on the gun and still get it as light as an unlightened 5 incher without cutting the spring plug area?

Not quite, but pretty close. Mine has 6 pairs of cuts similar to the EGW style, and the 3-side top treatment, and weighs in around 13oz, a smidge more than a plain 5" slide. If I decide to have more cuts done, the spring plug area will probably be where I start.

Harmongreer,

I was weighing as I made the milling cuts on the sides and the top and can not remember the exact amount since I did not write them down, but I think it was around 0.8 oz for the spring plug area.

How flat does it shoot realative to perceived recoil? That is a good question. But the reality is I can 'see' and 'track' the sights much better than with my 5" pistol. So based on that, it is much better for me and I am sure that 'seeing' better will = better shooting with all the other variables kept constant. IMO...anything will work for anyone, it just comes down to what we individually shoot the best at a given point in our development as a shooter.

i bet you could hull out the last .8 oz from behind the breechface ala the springfield factory custom steel challenge pistols..

MoNsTeR, do you think lightening the slide any more will actually increase scores?? I would have to shoot one before any lightening was done to really be sure.
