Julien Boit
Hey all, I'm planning to purchase the Fobus Handguard for the AR rifles. It features two molded picatinny rails on each side . I plan to put an Holosight on top and a vertical forend grip under. Any pros and Cons are welcomed . Patrick Sweeney
Julien, I have one set, put them on two rifles for light mounts. I haven't tried it as a scope/dot mount, but if you make it tight enough I guess it would maintain zero. You'll probably have to lop off the front sight housing to see the target, though. Julien Boit
The "zero" thing was one of my concern, and I checked the handguard I currently have on my carabine. It has little play, It might be a problem for long range shooting, despite I don't do it often if the fobus has the same play. I try to make my mind between a "regular" mount (the one that attaches to the handle and drop the scope above the handguard) with a weaver rail attached to the bottom of my handguard for the vertical grip and the Fobus. I wish I could have two rifles to make the two set up and compare BTW, I 'm looking for a light mount that goes on the barrel under the front sight, Do you know something about that kind of thing ? Guest Dick W Holliday
your concern is the reason that Knight did away with the RIS and went to the RAS system which is a better platform for sights....the old RIS (Rail interface System) is what i've got and no way would i put an aimpoint on it.....i think the Fobus should be OK for Lights and handles but i suspect that's about it.....Dick
Patrick Sweeney
As for light mounts, Surefire makes several different barrel mounts. GG&G makes a light mount that goes on the front sight casting, and also takes a sling as a side mount. Neat stuff, both.
