I use and live by my Valentine 1. (www.valentine1.com) Best unit I have used, though I have not used the unit you have. Front and rear detectors, x,k,ka and lazer. It tells you what type, which direction it is coming from, and how many radar guns are hitting you. The company will also upgrade your unit when new technology comes along, (for a moderate fee) which I have had done just resently, (some new type of "POP" super fast on/off radar guns have hit the market these days). Very informative web site, check it out.

I bought one of these a couple of months ago. Best one on the market, bar none. Ain't cheap, but it blows the rest away.

In other words, I agree with Beven.

Another vote for the valentine 1, you don't realize the difference until you experience it. The front/ back indicator and the bogey counter are the best features.

Spend the money once, instead of every couple of years.

I had my V1 for 5 years now. It's still the best detector out there. I have the conceal display kit, so that the unit is mounted up high between the mirror and the ceiling while the display is on the dash so that no one can see if the unit is on.

As for the bands, I have disable X and K. Here in California pretty much all law enforcement have switch to Ka. It used to be local PD's were still using K but I think all of them have switch to Ka. I did this so it eliminates all the false readings. Automatic doors at stores are K band. I'll probably switch off Laser also since they don't use laser in California and it gets set off by the high mounted center LED brake lights on the new GM SUVs.

Plus, if they come out with a revision, you can upgrade your unit. For instance I can have my unit upgraded to their current version for $189+shipping and it would have a new warranty also.

Hey what is the latest & greatest in radar detectors??

What bands to look for??

I have an UNIDEN RD 3XL,it has bands X K & Ka. Is it worth keeping? or do I need more???

Thanks Kevin

They're illegal now in the Netherlands, using one results in prosecution: losing one's driver license and depending on the recorded speed losing one's car. In my case losing a Porsche 3.2 AirCooled Carrera.

So for me in The Netherlands max. 75 mph.:( Luckily for me I live near to the German border; over there: No Limits! No detector needed B) hence 145+

It's only available through the company. There's a few on ebay for over $400 + shipping if you are that stupid.

Like I mentioned earlier, mine is mounted as high as possible which makes it a lot harder to spot. They also use a phone line as the power/display cable, which is fairly easy to conceal into your headliner and down the A pillar.

Does anyone use the Concealed Display?

If so, is it worthwhile?

thanks,

be

I ran the straight cord up in the headliner, down the passenger side A pillar, behind the panel underneath the glove box, and have it come out right by the power plug/lighter. I mount the detector beside my rearview mirror (on the passenger side) and remove it between uses. I also pull the plug end and stow it. Most of the time I'm running the thing off of a three-way splitter and have my car charger for my iPod plugged in one of the other spots (attached to the iPod and iTrip). Where my power plug is located wouldn't allow for the use of the concealed display as it would get in the way of the shifter, not to mention access to my iPod... just something to consider.

Mr. be,

I use the concealed display. The detector is mounted high, right above the rear veiw mirror for the best detection of radar. When a signal is detected, you will hear a tone, (plus the numbers and type of radar on the display) and you can set the level of this tone, (for me, this is set pretty high, so if I have the tunes playing loud, the V1 will get my attention). When you hear this high level tone, you can push the volume button to lower the tone to a lower setting, (which you can adjust also). In my truck, it is an uncomfortable reach to get to the volume button, so I installed and mounted the concealed display right on top of my steering colum. I can see the display tucked into the dash instruments, and can easily reach the volume button when needed. I think it is a must have, if you can't reach the V1 with comfort. All the control you have with the V1 sounds complicated, but once you start using it, you won't want anything else.

The conceal display is a must. One, it turns off the main display so no one can see the lights go off. Remember you want to be the only one slowing down, not everyone behind you too. I have had this happen. CHP on a bike was set up in the middle of the corner. I had enough warning to change lanes and slow down. He pulled over the guy that was behind me.

Mine is up above the rear view mirror also. The suction cups are in the tinted part of the window so it's fairly hard to spot. Cable runs through the headliner, down the A pillar and through the dash to the 12v outlet. Then another cable runs back through the dash and out through the steering column gap. The display is mounted at the bottom edge of the speedo. The unit comes with hardware to hard wire into the car's electrical if you want to conceal all the wires and plug. I never got around to doing it.

The V1 is very distracting the first month. You eyes are glued to it because of the number of signals it picks up. Then you are watching the direction to figure out where the signal is coming from. Before I changed the internal settings, I ran it on full Logic mode which filters out most of the false alarms. After you use it for a while, you can figure out which bands the police use and turn off the other ones.

They also have an audio adaptor for motocycle riders.
