Internet Bogged Down With Huge Increase In Traffic

BERRYVILLE, AR - What to do when your favorite sport gets a new rulebook that is long overdue? Why, moan and complain on the internet, of course. When the IDPA (International Defensive Pistol Association) released the new rules of competition to the online community on Jan. 5th, it instantly created a stir. So much of a stir that total internet bandwith increased by at least 25%, according to a Yahoo! official speaking on conditions of anonymity. "We've never seen anything like this. When the organization released [the rules], we immediately noticed our servers were straining, and we had to scramble to figure out what happened. I mean, this event eclipsed anything we've seen to date, including the recent Tsunami news and the Iraq invasion," according to the Yahoo! official.

The reason the internet seems much slower lately is the fact that there are several online forums dedicated to shooting, or the shooting sports. Every one of them is experiencing heavy server straining traffic with woe-be-gone IDPA members up in arms about the new rulebook. Apparently there are several rule changes that do not make sense to the general membership, such as new holster rules and a new division for Revolver shooters.

Unfortunately, for the rest of the internet community who just want their internet speed back, the end is not in sight. Every internet provider on the face of the planet is experiencing much heavier than normal traffic, to the point that some servers have experienced total server shutdown due to the neverending babble from the new rule critics.

What is the IDPA? It is a shooting game geared toward amatuers and new shooters that simulates real-world self defense scenarios. But according to IDPA critics, it is populated by armchair gunstore commandos who dress entirely in black and camo, scowl and threat-scan before shooting 10" groups at 5 yards and yearn for the chance to hold someone at gunpoint for real.

That explains the 5 earthquakes here in CA yesterday. The epicenter was located within a couple miles of my house, which is very close to the range that I shoot at. That range has just started up IDPA and is trying to get the weather to cooperate for their first match (failed the last 2 or 3 months). The earthquakes must have been the result of the jaws of all the guys that have to buy new equipment for their first match hitting the ground. :o

:P
