ToddKS
I recently installed a muzzle brake on my AR. I some junk I had for it straight across. There was no package so I have no idea what brand it is. It has a couple holes on top and three ports on each side. I noticed that since I installed this brake that I have damage on some rims where the rim appears to be bent backward by the ejector. From what I have read this type of damage is associated with over gassing but I have never had this problem with this gun. The load is the same load I have always used (24.0 gr H335, 55gr FMJ, Rem primer, Fed Brass) and the load is not hot. Is it possible that the brake is causing this or do I have another problem I need to look for? Thanks, Todd
gunther
I can't imagine how a brake could cause over gassing, fire it without the brake on. See what happens.
Mark Gale
Correlation doesn't equal causation... ... and of course you meant to say "the rim appears to be bent backward by the ejector extractor."
ToddKS
Correct, exctactor. It did not make much sense to me that the muzzle brake would be causing the problem but as I have zero experience with muzzle brakes on AR's I thought I would put the question out there to be sure. I have found stranger things that were true.
Vlad
Take it off, shoot it without it, see what the brass looks like.
ToddKS
That is my intention just as soon as my range is no longer under water. Heavy rains here have made quite the mess.
