Looking for more information

Recommended Posts

After years spent on the internet and in practical shooting, I absolutely guarantee that THIS is the best site out there :)

However, a couple of close runner ups can be found at:

Shooters Paradise

Max Michel's Forum

Both of the above are by top notch GM shooters and have good information.

If you want technical information, I can recommend that you *search* at 1911 Forums and Glock Talk, but neither of these, at least IMHO have a good community atmosphere.

Brandon,

I see you are from NW Ohio.

I am the Ohio Section Coordinator for USPSA (and BSeevers tackled the job before me).

Not sure where you are located exactly, but there are quite a few shooters here from Indy and from "that state up north".

Matt Burkett also has a great website...including free tips to help you get started.

Welcome aboard!

I have to agree w/ what Kathy said. The 2 big classified ad sites are Auctionarms.com and Gunsamerica.com However, most of them are now populated by dealers who are selling stuff for way over retail, or utter junk that they think is worth $3k+ b/c it is a "tactical" rifle b/c they put a $50 pos scope on it. Other problem is that if you are selling something, there are a lot of tire kickers and more often than not, if someone does say they are going to buy it, they don't. I've had several deals fall through b/c the buyer didn't pay or disapeared alogether. Neither site cared.

If you want to buy or sell something, I would try here first and also on the Uspsa.org board.

Thanks for the help everyone. I have been going through the FAQ's and think there is some great information out there. (Hope the more senior members add more....hint, hint...)

I plan on visiting a few clubs to watch some matches and then start shooting as well. I am in NW Ohio, so if anyone out there is from around here and want to take me under their wing, feel free.... ;)

I have to say that it is kinda confusing figuring out the rules for guns, holsters for IPSC, USPSA and IDPA. I was hoping to buy something that would fit them all and just blast away.

Are there any videos out there of the last few Nationals? The only I see are from the 90's?

Now back to my reading.....

Forum member Shred put together a dvd of Squad 30 at this year's Nationals (2004).

While it's not exactly the super-squad, it is a squad full of many Master-class shooters and quite a few of the forum moderators (Seems like there were 5 moderators on that squad? Plus a couple of regular/great forum contributors.)

He was selling it pretty cheap ($15 or so).

Do you have a handgun now? Do you like a certain type?

A couple of the more popular guns are single-stack 1911's (in 45 caliber) and Glocks (in 9mm or 40). Either can/does win matches.

If you don't reload, then buying 9mm is (by far) the cheapest way to go. A good 9mm gun...Glock, Beretta, CZ, etc...anything with a "double-action" first shot...any of those would be fine for USPSA's Production or IDPA's Stock service Pistol.

And, a $20 Uncle Mike's holster is perfect.

There are several IPSC and IDPA clubs in SE Michigan also. You should check the IDPA and USPSA websites to see where these clubs are from your home. I could provide some info on the SE Mi club schedules if you would like.

I do currently have a 1911 .45 and thought about using it for a while till I figure out what I want. (from most peoples advice on here) I plan on watching the classifieds and maybe picking up a few used items (rig, Glock, S_I....) so that I can try a few things and figure out what may suit my skinny little hands

No reloading, but figure I will be sometime this year, so I can tune my own loads. But will probably just buy white box for now. Other suggestions?

If anyone in the area is attending any matches soon, let me know so I can tag along....... Anyone go to NorthWest Ohio Combat Pistol Club? FlexMoney, Where do you shoot?

Brandon,

I am in Columbus. I don't get to your corner of the state on a regular basis.

The NorthWest Ohip Combat Pistol Club started back up last year. They were a pretty popular club a few years back...then the range they were using was sold, and they had to find a new place to shoot. They are the only USPSA in your corner of the state. (But, don't let state lines slow you down...most of us drive a bit to get to matches...they are that much fun!)

Have you been in contact with anyone from that club?

Cameron, I'd appreciate a schedule of club matches in your area!

Big PROPS out to Shred on his video, I sat and watched it beginning to end... twice in a row... :D

Outstanding Editing!

Thanks Shred!
