cottyw
OK Gentlemen, I have a Leupold CQT. With the reticle clear and bright at 3x the picture is somewhat fuzzy at 1x/7 yards. With the picture clear and bright at 7yards the reticle will washout slightly at 3x. Where should I assume some risk? Will
Garryowen
try adjusting the focus?
cottyw
Garry, I have adjusted the focus. In a 3-gun match I use the 1x and the 3x nothing in-between. My question is about reticle washout at 3x. If I adjust the reticle so that it is bright and clear at 3x the picture is a little fuzzy at 1x. I wonder how all of you who use Leupold 1-4x or whatever brand of variable deal with this. Will
PacMan
That doesn't sound right, my CQ/T reticle is sharp from 1x to 3x, might want to talk to Leupold factory technician.
cottyw
Guys, I am not doing a good job of explaining myself. The optic functions perfectly. I think I may have a slight stigmatism (nothing severe). Ok, in order to shoot at distance you should focus on the reticle and the target should be a little fuzzy, right? With that in mind, my problem is with the reticle adjusted to be sharp and clear for long range 3x shooting. When I turn the scope back down to 1x for close work the image is slightly fuzzy slowing me down a tad. I am asking if anyone else has experienced anything like this with any variable type scope. Additionally, if you have experienced the same issue which did you decide was more important a crisp reticle at 3x or a clear view at 1x for 3-gun shooting? Religious Shooter
I think I have the same problem. I try to make the reticle sharper at the farther ranges as those are the more difficult shots. For the closer targets I use an open gun technique and "look through" the recticle and focus on the target. I'm not really focusing on the recticle at the closer ranges. So if it's fuzzy at that range... who cares. I've noticed this problem with my IOR CQT. I haven't really paid much attention or noticed a problem with my Accupoint. PacMan
I guess at close range when the 1x is used, I don't look at the reticle, just superimposing the big circle over the target area.
cottyw
Thanks guys for the help. I was zeroing the reticle at too short a range. When I took it to a 300-yard range the reticle issue worked itself out somewhat. I reread the Leupold manual for the CQT and it was also helpful. With that being said, let me ask my question another way. When shooting at a dark target (black MGM flash) with a black reticle at 300+ meters how do you deal with the lack of contrast? PacMan
The CQ/T black dot always appeared darker than the target itself, but you're right, it is a little bit of a challenge.
