Obviously, the chances of finding the non list gun here is remote to non existent.

Actually many non-list guns are very available:

I meant the chances of finding the gun YOU WANT here legally are slim.....

BTW: the SSE (single shot exemption) reads as follows: you want your 1911 with a six inch barrel? How many 1911's are 10 1/2 inches in total length?

"B) The provisions of this chapter shall not apply to a

single-shot pistol with a barrel length of not less than six

inches and that has an overall length of at least 10 1/2 inches

when the handle, frame or receiver, and barrel are assembled"

"An FFL can then take an off roster semi-automatic handgun (it can be done with revolvers too), and by using aftermarket parts (longer barrel and magazine well block), convert it to a single shot with the required barrel and OAL length."

SSE is not complicated at all. Bountyhunter if you are a resident of California you should speak to a Dealer who does SSE. No offense intended, It sounds like you may not fully understand the process.

Once delivered to the buyer, the original parts may be re-installed and original functionality will be restored."

What it consists of is having a gunsmith build a complete top end for the gun's receiver which conforms to the SSE exemption description which is:

"B) The provisions of this chapter shall not apply to a

single-shot pistol with a barrel length of not less than six

inches and that has an overall length of at least 10 1/2 inches

when the handle, frame or receiver, and barrel are assembled"

So, you pay for the gun to be gunsmith fitted with a longer barrel and slide if needed and converted into single fire only operation. Then once you pay for all that, you can reinstall the original top end and have the gun you actually wanted.

The gun stores that do the SSE pistols will proved the barrel, and mag block 99% of the time. The barrels are lose drop in barrels, they don't have to win a bullseye match to be functional.
