gatnfans
I have a ProChrono and I'm looking for a good tripod that meet a couple of requirements or is twice the price of the chrono. My problem is that I am 6'4' so it needs to extend to a comfortable standing height but also get low enough for bench shooting. The couple that I have found local don't fit the size requirements until I get above the $150 mark. Also they look pretty unstable at full height. Also I want it as compact as possible and that has ruled out several. Just wondering what you guys are using.
johnsons1480
I don't know if this one is compact enough, but I think it meets the rest of your requirements. I'm 6'2" and it was usable for me while shooting pistol standing, but I use it mostly for bench rifle shooting. I like it a lot; it's very sturdy. You can hang a sand bag or other weights off the hook on the bottom if it's windy, which is a nice feature to have. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/729543/vanguard-espod-plus-203ap-tripod-black?cm_vc=ProductFinding
gatnfans
Thanks for the suggestion. What size is it folded up? Compact for me is carrying it with the chrono stuff and all shooting stuff to the indoor range. Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk
cguy1177
I don't own it and I'm not sure how tall you want it but this goes to 60" http://www.amazon.com/SUNPAK-SPK620080-Sunpak-620-080-Tripod/dp/B00009UT3F/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1392389342&sr=1-1&keywords=sunpak+tripod I do own and use it's little brother as I almost always chrono from a bench and can handle the occasional string of 10 while crouching. http://www.amazon.com/SUNPAK-SPK620020-Sunpak-620-020-Tripod/dp/B00009UT28/ref=cm_cd_ql_qh_dp_t Edited February 14, 2014 by cguy1177
Lifeislarge
I bought my tripod at the local Goodwill store for $5. If you look around at thrift stores you can always find a plethora of tripods to choose from at bargain basement prices.

It comes with a bag to put it in with an over the shoulder string, which makes it easy to carry.
Boxerglocker
Bought a cheapo at Walmart $13 years ago for another use... after I got my Pro chrono re-purposed it. No issues works fine.
DC730
i have this one seems to work fine for me i dont extend it all the way out . http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-60-Inch-Lightweight-Tripod-Bag/dp/B005KP473Q/ref=pd_cp_p_1 think i paid maybe $15 delivered for it last year i think your going to find out if you want it to be sturdy at 6 feet or more your going to pay a pretty penny . better off just tilting the stand and chronograph downward if you must stand or better yet just shoot sitting down when testing loads?? warpspeed
Ebay. Look for a Velbon Videomate. Most extended to 60 in which should be more than adequate.

Jaxshooter
Try Optics Planet. The last time I looked their prices on tripods was pretty good.
ltdmstr
Look on ebay for a used Gitzo. They are professional quality, very strong and available in large sizes. Manfrotto/Bogen are also good alternatives.

jmcqueen
I use the tripod from my transit. Super strong and hard to knock over though it is bulky. It has a large turret base on top that I just bungee chrono to. Should be plenty of old used around, ebay ect.
