cpa5oh
They cost $17 and they feel awesome. A thread from 2009 had a post of an email from Amidon that said they were illegal for the Production division (because they changed the profile of the front strap to having finger grooves from not having finger grooves.) Yet now we have Production guns with 1911 bushings and bull barrels...and I think basepad restrictions were removed just recently...does anyone know if anything has changed on this issue to where the Hogue wrap around rubber grips can be used in the Production division? And if they are currently deemed illegal, is there anything that can be done to get them approved? The Shadow is just too damn small in my hands (even with CZ Custom's widest grips) - these Hogues resolve that problem and cost way less than any other available CZ grips. Czhase
I don't see anything in the rule book that states that they are illegal, unless they add more that 2 oz to the pistol. The rule book states that grip sleeves are legal, I don't see a differance between a wrap around grip and a grip sleeve.
cpa5oh
Here's the thread (with Amidon's email pasted) that got me to thinking the grips were not legal. http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=94602 In the latest rulebook, appendix D4, section 22 is headed "specifically prohibited modifications and features" and then under that is section 22.2, which says "grips - any addition or removal of material which changes the factory profile or adds function such as a thumb rest or beavertail." The definition of the word "profile" is "an outline of something." So I guess you could say that the wrap around grip changes the profile because it adds material and finger groves to the front strap and the "outline" looks different...but you can take that argument and say that the wrap around sleeves, wider grip panels, or even grip tape can make the "outline" look different to some degree, so "changes the factory profile" is somewhat open to interpretation and not absolute. tortuga
I also find that the Hogue is the only grip that would fit for me, everything else left me gripping the front and the back only. Looks like the rules changed for 2014: http://www.uspsa.org/document_library/rules/2014/Feb%202014%20Handgun%20Rules.pdf • For semi-automatic Production guns, grip tape, grip sleeves, checkering, stippling or other texture may only be applied in the areas shown in appendix E4 From the pic in E4, the front and back straps are now fair game. The rule used to limit it to the area covered by the stock grip.
cpa5oh
I don't think there ever was a restriction against grip tape on the front strap. Though two years ago I was told that the "sleeve" on a Glock was not legal...I had just started shooting and didn't consult the rule book or question it. doc38
I have a Houge grip on the Cz75b in my holster right now. I like it, but it is hard to get used to a full fitting grip. Everything else is small and that is what I have gotten used to. Old habits are hard to break.
cpa5oh
Myself and two other guys struggle to have room for our weak hands with the grip being a small size...with the wrap around, no problem.
