Gcarr
I have been looking at 9mm carbines for a while. I have read a lot about the Hi-Point and the Kel-tec as well, but I am leaning towards the MecTech. Does anyone have any advice they could share with me to convince or unconvince me on the MecTech. I have a glock lower to dedicate to the unit.
jjw
I have been looking at 9mm carbines for a while. I have read a lot about the Hi-Point and the Kel-tec as well, but I am leaning towards the MecTech. Does anyone have any advice they could share with me to convince or unconvince me on the MecTech. I have a glock lower to dedicate to the unit. i can say i have never seen 1 work for over 50 rds. we are a training & security company. we used to train civies after 9/11. saw a bunch come thru. we banned them early on. i am a 9mm carbine junky. i can say i have owned every one ever made but a high point. GForceLizard
I don't have problems with my Mech Tech. The first day out I ran a 50 round box of 124gr Blazer Brass. The barrel chamber is short. I needed to reduce the length I am reloading 9mm. It's an ok rifle. The weight balance on it is strange. There is a lot of mass up front. It's that block under the front sight. I thought I was going to save some bucks but I ended up buying a dedicated Glock frame so I don't have to swap it with my pistols. If I had to do it over I'd buy a Just Right carbine that uses Glock mags.
shooterready
I own a 9mm. Had some issues with it originally, got a new one from the company. Same issues on the 2nd. It would only fire one round and not reset the trigger. Then I decided to fix it myself and it now runs 100% and still have my fix in it to this day. Have shot several thousand rounds from it, runs great, after my fix to the firing pin. I believe the Mech Tech made changes based on my input back when I was having problems with it a few years back. It has been so long I can't even remember what I did to fix the firing pin. I do remember adding a custom washer to keep the firing pin aligned in its channel. I've got an old picture somewhere of the mod I made. I'm now curious to see a current design Mech Tech. Funny that many stock guns need to be working on / modded to get them to work 100%. I'm an engineer and laugh every time stuff doesn't work out of the gate. But, I guess, we are all human. Even I make mistakes, sometimes...... ;o)
Yardbird
My 9mm MechTech has always run flawlessly. Love those 36 round mags!
Gcarr
From all my research it looks like the early models had some issues. Don't see any complaints on the newer models...??? I shoot rifles left handed... Would there be any issues there??? I sure don't like like splatter and brass hitting me in the face ... mscott
I'm happy with both of my Mech Techs, but have a JRC and like it better. Accuracy is about 3" at 100 yards with either one.
BBoyle
I have a 38 super for a 1911, one of the first generation ones that i believe I got in the late 90s. I had a few failures to feed after hundreds of rounds. A 5 minute cleaning and re lubing got it back and never had another issue. Accuracy: hits clay pigeons at 100 yards consistent with an old pdp3 (8 min dot ?) My old major 38sc velocity was bumped up to 1750 fps. I do not remember if it was 7625 or n350 though. I doubt factory 9mm will see 300+ fps but maybe an extra 100 or so. It is strange hearing the stock vibrate like a tuning fork when you fire it. It is not uncomfortable to shoot but not comfortable either. It will not lock back on last round fired but you can manually lock it open. I haven't shot it in awhile but I think it is worth the money spent. They have better accessories now and if I could do it again I would get the Glock kit, which wasn't out when I got mine. I almost forgot I had it. I may have to bring it out when the weather breaks. Brian
herky
My 9mm MechTech has always run flawlessly. Love those 36 round mags! Couldn't agree more. Mine has run great for years atop a G17.
spd522
My Mech Tech is in 45 acp and marked Wilson Combat. I got it around 1997 or so. I put it on a Gen 1 Para Ord gunsmith frame that doesn't have the ramp cut. I have shot it a lot with everything from 155 SWC to 230 LRN and it runs them all. Generally, whatever load I shoot through it runs about 210 fps faster than through the std 5 " barrel upper for the Para. So some of the old 155 SWC that used to be the ticket in early USPSA Open division, run around 1400 fps in the Mech Tech. It really takes down steel, even at 50 yds. I thought about loading some 165 JSP for deer hunting in a stand but never did. Craig
