mildot1
Gave up on the weakhand load four and going to AP custom QL8. I can cram a duece in no problem but 50% of the time I am running into a wall on the first two on the quad load, I beleive I am pushing the lifter to far down and hitting the flat spot on the reciever where the mag tube screws in. I have opened up the loading port and cut the reciever and handguard back to make room for the second set of shells to go by as I stuff the first. Have any of you got inside the gun and chamfered the other side of the mag tube port(directly under the bolt) to aid in getting the shells started in? If so, how did you get at it? remove mag tube and come in from the mag tube side? Any help would be great Mildot
HadleyOwens
Forearm work is where the difference is made...you might need to alter the angle that you drop the shells or even thumb placement on the first shells going in the tube. SonOfSpartans
I had to remove material from the sides of my forearm as well. I noticed during a study and paying attention to the feel of the load that while setting up the first two I had to roll my fingers outward to have them clear the forearm. I also noticed some other things that I changed that helped ME. (My style, hands and muscle memory) I noticed that thumb placement on the first pair made a huge difference. I noticed that the "catch" feeling happened when I failed to roll my fingers away to clear the second pair AND THIS WAS AGGRIVATED by placing my thumb in the center of the shells. If I placed my thumb on the shell in such a way that I was on the outer half of the shell, the second shell helped the first stay down on the lifter and feed in smoother and it followed right in. Then I repeat with the remaining deuce. It took a little practice but it got a lot smoother with less "rejects" in practice. I also noticed some difference in shells. The crimp radius on some shells is sharper than others. Brands of shells with a more rounded nose on the shells feed much easier. Go figure. I did radius the inlet of the loading tube but only in the exposed area. I did not go after the sides or section near the top of the receiver as I wanted to leave the ridge on three sides to ensure the follower did not pop out on the last shell. All this is weak hand loading. I cannot duplicate my success strong hand at this time. I do the pistol grip roll and body clamp and stuff them from the belt. inrut
I had to bend the front edge of the lifter to get a nice flow of the shells going in. If you look at your lifter and push it down the shells are coming in at a sharp angle and are bottoming out in the tube. Just bend the front edge of your lifter so that they don't bottom out in the tube.

I'm also trying to wrap my brain around how I can get the edge beveled. For me I get hang ups on both twins and quads. Besides that edge I think I have my loading port and forearm pretty well dialed in for both. Post up if you end up doing work to that edge. I'd be interested in what you did and how it turned out. Bullshifter1939
a guy gave me a DVD on Magpul's dynamic shotgun--to get me into a mindset before I decide to purchase a shotgun for personal defense, There was some real helpful suggestion for four loadings. If you were in Boise I'd loan it out to you---but--- I did settle on a FN-SLP-MK1 after talking with military and law personnel. They liked the way it seems to resist malfunctions in times of extreme rapid fire (8-9 rounds under two seconds) However there was a bunch of recommended refinements to make to the weapon which are underway as I prep for a week at Front Sight. Good luck and good shooting.
