Tattoo
Hey All, I have always used the Dillon dies, but wanted to try a set of Hornady 9mm dies on my 550? Any issues? T
Steve RA
No reason why they would not work, try and see !
MikeRush
Shouldn't be a problem. I use Lee, Forster, RCBS, etc on my 550 in addition to the Dillon dies.
Tattoo
Cool! I just know Dillon flares the sizer bottom... I assume... To aid machine smoothness and function? Never tried any others. Thanks! T
Gussers
They're all flared to an extent. I use Lee, RCBS, and Hornady does in my 550 with no problems whatsoever. The main thing about the Dillon die is the seat and crimp are separate. I just back off the crimp on the seating dies and use a Lee factory crimp die. Works like a champ for me. XxWoodsHunterxX
I just bought a set of hornady 45-70 dies. They work great in my 550. Had to adjust a little more to get exact since the seat crimp dies are one but everything else was fine. Size deprime die is cool wish Dillion's was like that but they work just like any other die
Reinz
You may find that you may not be able to go AS fast with NonDillon dies. Especially if you are a speed freak. The flaring really aids in smoothness. With NonDillon dies sometimes the cases will catch on dies as if the shell plate is a tad out of alignment. XxWoodsHunterxX
All in all I've been loading my 45-70 rounds with Hornady and I'll tell you what. I dot know how you guys do it on single stage. I have made some pretty darn good ammo form my 550.
