JFlowers
I have a scope that is mechanically sound, but for some reason the finish on the scope has become tacky and gooey. Touching it leaves black gum on your hands. Almost like the scope was tape wrapped or subjected to some type of chemical at sometime. But since I bought the scope NIB I know that is not the case. Now the scope has a Lifetime Warranty, but that is no help. The company that built it is out of business and while a new company of the same name exists; they don't service the old scopes. So, at some point I want to replace the scope entirely. But until then, any thoughts on what I could do to handle the tacky exterior? Since its on a camo rifle, I was thinking about getting the matching MossyOak scope wrap and just wrapping it to cover the tacky surface. Steve RA
Wrapping it sounds like a good suggestion. It might help it stick if you used finger nail polish remover (acetone) or paint remover to get rid of the "tacky" stuff first. openclassterror
+1 on acetone- just use with a dampened rag. It will eat o-rings if applied dripping wet. Lots of Tascos had that problem with the goopy finish. There is a company called gunskins.com that makes adhesive vinyl wrap kits in various camos and other patterns. They look good and work pretty well. But, it won't stay unless you get the goop off first.
