I'm sure there some top notch Skeet, Trap, or Clays majors out there with BIG prize tables!

If you're looking for a big table at an IPSC match....hmmm let's see. There was the 1998 TN State Championship, the 2002 Infinity Open, the 2001 Area 8 Championship (tooting my own horn here) where there were far more prizes than shooters (toot toot) in ADDITION to cash prizes (toot toot toot)

I'm not sure if there are any more big tables out there. I can tell you that they certainly weren't the ones I won last year. Don't get me wrong, I won a few nice prizes, but a good table is the one that ALL get a chance to pick from.

I feel that if the Point Series were handled correctly and big money started getting awarded, then more people would get involved. More involvment from the shooters would result in more involvement from the sponsors. Major sponsorship would mean major prize tables. It all starts somewhere.

Oh well, happy hunting.

Solely for the sake of clarification on the definition, here is a visual aid that accompanies the entry at urbandictionary.com to which skywalker referred:

Contrast this with pirate treasure like so:

If anyone can find a match that has either on the prize table, I am SO THERE. B)

That match in CA a few years ago with the Swedish Bikini Team shooting had some good booty.

Most matches post their prize policy and different match directors mean different prizes each year.

I am still waiting to get rich at shooting

it all depends on what kind of prize your looking for. I attended areas 3,4,6, this year and out of the 3 area 4 had the most prizes, but no cash payout. area 3 was second with prizes and no cash. area 6 had minimual prizes but cash payouts.

good luck finding both in the south east.

I think it might help to ask ahead of time if they have a dedicated person hustling for donations, and maybe who it is. I think the person schmoozing the potential sponsors makes more difference than the match itself.

FortyFiveShooter on here is about as good as it gets at stocking a prize table.

You guys are soooo unlucky that you never made it to Second Chance. The match had both definitions you are discussing. Rhino, where is that pool?

Patrick, I was also going to comment on the great prize tables back in the glory days of Second Chance (between the prize table guns and shoot-off money I'll have to admit I had some pretty worthwhile trips to Central Lake)....

Then I remembered how frickin' chintzy Richard got toward the end....in '93 I finished 2nd place MB (i.e. 2nd overall) and the best prize on the table (after Tapp and the top OSS guy picked) was a Ruger .22 rifle that was barely worth the entry fee.

Unfortunately, that's what tends to happen when a match evolves into a profit center for its owner. Sadly, it's also one of the reasons the pin-shooting sport seems to have imploded upon itself....

Prize table? Most of the time that statement is play on words. I think the dilution of the sport to a table per gun type and then the concept that everyone deserves a prize has successfully wiped out the good prizes. (Everyone gets a hug!)

Don't try and pay for your shooting with prizes - go to what the the best match is going to be and enjoy it for the shooting.

Rhino,

As the dedicated "prize hustler" for several matches now, it does depend on the person and that person having a list of contacts. If you'd be interested in getting stuff for your prize table, you would want to go to the SHOT Show to make contacts, pay attention to who is giving stuff to the current matches, and generally be a nice person to the companies who donate stuff or let you buy stuff at a discount. It's pretty easy.

Oh! And don't forget to thank them, advertise for them, mention them strongly at the match, and give their contributions to competitors who will use the products. The best/worst advertisement a company can get is word of mouth, especially in a small community like ours.

I'm sure you are going to hate to hear this, but best match for getting a return on you performance/match fee it the IRC, thats International Revolver Championship, to ya'll bottom feeders. At the 2003 IRC I finished 1st C class and took home a $1100 Vang-Comp shotgun. This year at the 2004 IRC, the last place shooter still took home over $270 worth of prizes. Nobody comes close to the IRC, also the revolver shooters don't get crapped on, or get yelled at when asking a simple question the way I did at the A2 this year at the prize table. ( didn't get grapped on, just yelled at)
