Which 40 cal Bullet seating die to use with Xtreme 180 RNFP plated

Which 40 cal Bullet seating die are people using with 180 Xtreme RNFP?

I use a Redding Competition seating die for seating mostly 40 cal MG 180 JHp's with very little variation in OAL. When I load Xtreme 180 RNFP the OAL variation exceeded my comfort levels (0.03 to either side). There is not enough variation in the Xtreme bullets themselves to account for the variation.

I noticed the Redding die does not fit the Xtreme bullet profile as well as it does the MG, so my thought is that there are other dies more suitable for the Xtremes.

FWIW, I use a Redding seating die to seat 9mm Xtreme 124 RN with very little OAL variation.

I use a lee seating die. No issues in 6k+ rda thus far.

You can always use silicon in the seater punch with a bit of plastic bag over the silicon to form a custom punch,if you decide on a different bullet just remove the silicon and do it over. SJ 40

I have the Hornady seaters for both the 9mm and .40 extremes. Never had a problem.

I've been having the same issue with my redding comp seater. I also have a lee die so I reluctantly switched back to it and it did not help much, but my variations were not nearly as great as yours (1.208-1.218, set:1.212). I think they suggest taking out the spring in the redding if you are having major seating issues. Not very impressed with a die so expensive, they need to add more inserts or something. I would like to try the silicone idea

I use the Redding competition seating. Originally I loaded with MG CMJ but due to cost switched to Xtremes. The Redding die seats on the ogive of the bullet. I measure COAL (bullet tip to bottom of case) as part of my set-up and inspection. I found when measuring to the ogive on the Xtremes, the dims were consistent. My assumption is the ogive on the Xtremes are not consistent in dimension to the tip of the bullet. I took a 1/4" aluminum rod and machined a small groove around the diameter and placed a small o-ring in the groove. I pressed this piece into the seating die so now the die seats on the tip of the bullet. Now my COAL is consistent.

I use a Dillion with very little variation. Most of my variation comes from the cases that I use, mixed brass.

Another vote for dillon seating die as well. I get consistent OAL's with multiple bullet profiles by changing the insert.

Lee dies here. Been using xtreme 165 RNFP with no issues.

Another vote for Dillon it just works. Several thousand rounds no problems. Also use a LEE Carbide Factory Crimp Die. It fully sizes the case and crips the bullets with no cunnelure part #90862
