nmcferro
Has anyone slim downed their grip safety? Specifically the corner right behind the thumb safety. I have small hands and am shooting a 2011 and would like to get a little more thumb meat on the thumb safety. The grip has already been reduced and a small MSH installed. Pics of any mods you have made would be greatly appreciated!
rishii
Take a look at the sti grip safety It's shaped the way you describe I cut my own with a dremel and a sanding drum

nmcferro
Nice pic! I like that reduction. Did you do it yourself?
eric nielsen
Did this one myself. Frame is quick to change, grip safety took several hours. People either oooh & aaah when they try it, or just shrug. Depends on your thumb.
Ssanders224
Here ya go. Continue the reduction blend into the corners of the frame for a really comfortable result.
thegunnerd
Pin the safety and take the bump off like the above pic. I just had that done on my newest gun and the grip feels really good .
nmcferro
Ssanders, that is a beautiful job! Did you have to refinish the frame?
Ssanders224
Ssanders, that is a beautiful job! Did you have to refinish the frame? It was done by Dan Bedell when the gun was built, but yes, you would need to refinish the frame.
nmcferro
I am in envy of that job. I am going to try on my own, so I my not be able to do the frame part .

troupe
The corners can be cut and blended as you have noticed without a lot of work. If the pistol is just a competition gun, get rid of the bump and deactivate it. You can also thin it more at the back as well. Notice a SV grip, cut a lot like a Tanfoglio. I used a SV grip safety in a STI build and it was thinner.
nmcferro
Started working on mine, going slow and it is starting to feel better. I will keep working at it and post pics when finished. oak hill
A little sanding on the edges will make a big difference. Plus, when you get done you will have a custom gun! Let us know how your custom gun turns out
