Dumb optics mount question

I'm having trouble understanding all the different scope mounts. Can someone give me a "Scope mounts 101"? Specifically, what height do I want?! It seems there's no standard? So is there a way to measure my face or something? I don't understand. I've been to the LaRue website a few times to look at different mounts, but there's so many and I don't even know what to look for! Can you help steer me? What do I want to look for in a mount and what makes 1 mount "better" than another mount?

Rifle is a flat-top AR. The optics I'm looking at are either the Leupold Prismatic or the Leupold VX-6 Multigun.

Thanks,

Mike

AR 'height' one piece mounts are more or less 1.5" from the bottom of mount/top of rail to the optic centerline.

Rings are usually measured the same, but 'Super High,' 'High' etc. are somewhat meaningless.

The main difference in most one piece AR mounts is really about how much 'extension' or cant the mount has. You generally want your mount on the more stable/continuous rail on the upper, not on the forearm rails, thus you may want to get an 'extended' mount, which mounts on the top of the receiver, but levers forward to let the optic be positions clearly.

What optic is it? I'd wager the Larue SPR will work for you, unless you have an unusually long optic.
