rialcel
Hey guys,I'm suffering from accuracy woes with my M&P9 w/ apex dcaek. Over time I've played around with different backstraps and a few grip variations but can't seem to get things just right. I have good days and I have bad days, but the good days are far out weighed by the bad.My hands are small/medium sized and I noticed I seem to have the best accuracy using the large backstrap but at the expense of not being to hit the mag release like I can with the small or medium straps. I'm assuming my accuracy is better with the large because It feels like more surface area contact = better control of the handgun which results in less sight movement when dry firing. It seems the only reason I like the small backstraps is it seems to be easier to draw from my holster but my accuracy is probably the worst out of the 3 sizes. medium is what I have been using for the past year but my accuracy is still horrible when getting out around 25m. Now I'm starting to think it's my grip that is causing me all these issues. I also seem to notice because of the trigger safety my trigger finger is always sliding around on the trigger. Please help me! Any advice is greatly appreciated. horseman
My daughter and I took all of the grip inserts to the range and shot 2 inch circle's at 8 yards. We both had significant improvement in groups with the large. Hers was dramatic. She liked the feel of the small and I liked the medium best. We both shoot with the large. I would not worry much about being able to hit the mag release without shifting your grip. Not much of a factor outside of competition, even then not so much. I think they make an extended release button if you are shooting limited uspsa. Try some grip tape. Especially on the front edge of the grip. I shot an MP without tape for the first time in 5 years last week and could not believe how it rocked out of my grip. Like gripping bacon. Lots of video's showing how to grip the gun. Good luck
mcracco
I seriously doubt the 'wrong' grip insert is causing you to have consistency problems. My 1911 is not a perfect fit for my hand but I can shoot groups with it and if a shot winds up in the wrong place I usually know why. I would suggest making sure you really understand all the fundamentals (buy a book if need be). Then practice with good form. Eventually you will get to the point where you will know what you are doing physically or mentally that is responsible for the bad shots.
