Rust Blue questions

Hi guys

I am rust bluing a 1911 that I had stripped all the old bluing off of. I am having one heck of a time carding the inside areas. And some of those areas held some rust, which really gave me problems. Especially the trigger channel, some of the smaller holes where the pins go and the slide's lugs.

I've got just one session completed and am re-thinking if I want to apply the solution to the inside of the frame and slide again.

Thoughts? Should I let the inside areas go? Is there some trick to this that I haven't found yet? Or special set of brushes I haven't seen?

I'm thinking that if I do end up with 10 applications that once the inside starts to darken I'll probably let it go. Maybe this is why I am having such a hard time finding information on rust bluing pistols.

Thanks for any help.

I think its just going to be a tedious pain.

Little balls of 0000 steel wool that has been de-greased and held by forceps or artery clamps will help.

I'd not even consider trying to get a perfect finish on the inside parts.

Once it darkens some I'd stop. Or might not even worry about it and just blue the external areas that show.

Thanks Wheelie.

I actually did just that. After bluing and carding the inside a couple times, where it did darken some (not much), I turned my efforts to the outside only.

Great suggestion of the hemos clamping onto some steel wool. Where's a gun show when I need one for some cheap hemos and a large pair of tweezers?

When I get the outside close I'll do the inside one last time and call it a day.

Thanks again.
