Thehotrodpig
I carry an sti tactical .45 as a duty gun and just started having issues with one mag not locking the slide back. The follower looks worn where it engages the slide stop. Any recommendations for followers? While I am at it I will probably change all my springs as well. Any input is appreciated. Thanks, Dave
Mike21STI
If you aren't looking for extra capacity. I'd say go with the factory followers
Ultimo-Hombre
If its a duty gun for a municipality I'm surprised that: You can carry a 1911 You are allowed to work on it and install your own parts. I guess I am way out of touch Here in the PNW it seems to be glock 2? For everyone. But hey I'm just a dumb fireman so... That said I agree with just running factory followers. FWIW they can look hammered as hell and still work fine. Edited January 25, 2014 by Ultimo-Hombre

After you have enough time on we can carry about anything we want as long as it's of approved caliber and inspected/approved by the range master/armorer. I would guess that about 30-40% of us carry some sort of 1911, most others are carrying glocks. One of my followers is worn down enough that it isn't doing its job. Was just wondering if there was something better out there. I guess I'll just get some factory ones.
waktasz
Most of the competition guns are set to not lock the slide back when empty. If you want that feature the factory followers are best. That's what I use for IDPA.

Won't lock your slide back, dunno if that is cool for duty. Grams and competition ones of the like are outstanding but need some tuning or else they will lock your slide back with 2 left in the mag. A gun set up for no lock back can be accomplished by grinding the shelf off the follower AND OR grinding a detent in the slide stop so that the plunger firmly engages the detent in the slide stop preventing the follower from pushing the stop up to engage the slide, unless you intentionally press it up. As when intentionally locking the slide back.
waktasz
I worded it poorly but what I meant was that the factory followers will lock the slide back. Most of the guns using competition followers are set to not do that.
Thehotrodpig
Well seems like this is getting a little derailed. Gun has ran flawlessly for 5000 rounds or so, slide locks back and all....like I need it too. One mag started hiccuping yesterday and I noticed it had excessive wear where the follower engages the slide stop. Was just thinking that was a little quick and I hear a lot of talk about other followers. I'll just order some factory ones from dawson, I don't need extra capacity or finicky mags. Ultimo-Hombre
Sorry dude if we got off track. Factory= bueno Be safe out there!
tbarker13
I still use grams followers for my IDPA gun - an STI Eagle. The only downside is that they do require some modification to keep them from locking back with one round in the mag.
